CONCORD, N.H. (October 5, 2021) -- A two-over-par 72 from junior Michael Sosik (Fiskdale, Mass.) paced the Ravens on Tuesday, as the Franklin Pierce University men's golf team participated in the first day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by Southern New Hampshire. With an opening-round 297 (+17), the Ravens sit fourth, nine shots off the lead, at the midway point of the tournament, which is being held at the 6543-yard, par-70 Concord Country Club.

The NE10 Championship was originally scheduled as a 54-hole event, but wet weather in the area all weekend forced things to be postponed by a day and cut down to 36 holes. The second and final round will follow on Wednesday at Concord Country Club.

Halfway through the tournament, Assumption leads the way, after a first-round 289 (+9), which was good enough to give the Greyhounds a four-shot lead over second-place Le Moyne at 293 (+13). Host SNHU shot a 294 (+14) and is third, three shots in front of the Ravens. Franklin Pierce is another three shots clear of the 300 (+20) turned in by Saint Rose, which rounds out the top five of the 10-team field.

On the individual front, Sosik's 72 puts him tied-sixth through one round of play, at the head of a trio of Ravens inside the top 20 of the 50-golfer field. Sophomore Thomas Hickey (Moultonborough, N.H.) is tied-13th at 74 (+4), while sophomore Jake Berkio (Ashburnham, Mass.) is tied-17th at 75 (+5).

Freshman Peter Wurszt (Wilbraham, Mass.) rounded out Franklin Pierce's scoring four with a Tuesday 76 (+6) and is tied-22nd. Closing out the Ravens' five-player lineup was freshman Jake LaMonica (Quincy, Mass.) who carded a 78 (+8) and is tied-31st.

At the top of the field is SNHU junior Jeff Liss, who fired the only under-par round of the day, with a two-under 68. Liss leads by two shots over Le Moyne sophomore Tyler Birdd and SNHU sophomore AJ Cavotta, who both turned in even-par 70s. A pair of Assumption teammates rounded out the top five, as Lucas Roop and Sean Magarian are tied-fourth at 71 (+1).
