EMERSON, N.J. (March 29, 2022) -- For the second straight week, the Franklin Pierce University men's golf team was in action in New Jersey, at a tournament hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College. This time around, the Ravens took fifth place in a nine-team field at the Charger Challenge, held at the 6949-yard, par-71 Soldier Hill Golf Course on Tuesday. Sophomore Thomas Hickey (Moultonborough, N.H.) led the way for Franklin Pierce by finishing tied-14th in the 48-golfer tournament.

Originally scheduled as a 36-hole event over Monday and Tuesday, the Charger Challenge was shortened to 18 holes and contested on Tuesday only, due to frigid temperatures in the Garden State on Monday.

Hickey led the way for Franklin Pierce as part of a two-way tie for 14th after carding a five-over 76. Junior Michael Sosik (Fiskdale, Mass.) made it two Ravens in the top 20, as he turned in a 78 (+7) to finish tied-19th. Freshman Jack Paterson (Franklin, Mass.) followed another shot farther back and was tied-21st at 79 (+8). Freshman Peter Wurszt (Wilbraham, Mass.) was tied-29th at 80 (+9), while sophomore Jake Berkio (Ashburnham, Mass.) rounded out Franklin Pierce's five-player lineup with an 87 (+16), to finish tied-44th.

It all added up to 313 strokes (+29) and a fifth-place finish for the Ravens. St. Thomas Aquinas took home the tournament title at 298 (+14), as the Spartans earned a one-shot victory over host Dominican at 299 (+15). Goldey-Beacom followed one shot farther back in third at 300 (+16).

Individually, it was a pair of Post golfers at the top of the leaderboard. Sophomore Ethan Phillips put together a two-under round of 69, to chalk up a four-shot victory over freshman teammate Paul Christopher Antons at 73 (+2). Five players tied for third at 74 (+3).

The Ravens have the coming week off, but will be back in action at Le Moyne on April 10-11.
