Men’s Golf Places Fourth at Season Opening Tournament

KEENE, N.H. (September 9, 2019) The Franklin Pierce University men's golf team began their 2019-20 season with a fourth-place finish at the FPU Fall Invitational hosted by the Keene Country Club, the Ravens home course in Keene, N.H.

The Crimson and Gray dropped down to spots on the team leaderboard to fourth after shooting a combined 599 (+23) over two rounds. They even bettered their score by knocking off three strokes. However, Saint Thomas Aquinas College was better combining for a round two 284 (-4) to finish 588 (+12) on the tourney. Northeast-10 Conference opponents Southern New Hampshire University (591 (+15) and Bentley University (594, +18) rounded out the top three.

Senior Sam Myers (Colchester, Vt.) was one of two Ravens in the top-10 leading his squad with a low 145 (+1) scorecard for a share of third place. Myers was also tied for second in par-5 scoring (4.53, -3) and recorded the lowest score for Pierce, a second day 70 (-2). Classmate Keeton Foster (Spofford, N.H.) finished ninth at 147 (+3) and has the second most pars (26) in the field of golfers.

Senior Nate Patterson (Conway, Mass.) tied for 17th putting home a consistent 75 both days for a 150 (+6). Junior Dylan Plis (Camillus, N.Y.) and senior Liam Donohue (Vernon, Conn.) completed the team scoring with 157 (+13) and 160 (+16) showings. Donohue was the teams most improved golfer dropped off four strokes from Sunday to Monday. He also tied with Foster in pars.

Five more Ravens competed as individuals in the event with four knocking strokes from their cards. Freshman Jake Bennett (Madison, Conn.), freshman Jack Hogan (Westfield, Mass.) and senior Anthony Vincequere (Millbury, Mass.) all manufactured 76 (+4) afternoons Monday for 157 (+13), 159 (+15) and 159 (+15) scores respectively. Freshman Michael Sosik  (Fiskdale, Mass) and sophomore Conner MacDonald (Kennebunkport, Maine) chipped in 159 (+15) and 164 (+20) rounds as well.
