Men’s Golf Slides to Fourth, Remains In Contention Heading Into Final Round of Regionals

GREENSBURG, Pa. (May 10, 2019) The no. 1 regionally-ranked Franklin Pierce University men's golf program took part in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional early Friday morning at the Totteridge Golf Club.

Yesterday, the Ravens racked up a 298 (+10) score which put them in a tie of second place however today they fell two slots on the team leaderboard to fourth after totaling a 308 (+20) to give them a two-round 606 (+30) performance. Northeast-10 Conference team Bentley University climbed into first place shooting a tournament-low 294 (+6) second round to put them 22 over par. Southern New Hampshire University remained in second at 599 (+23) and Wilmington (Del.) University fell two spots to third adding 10 strokes to their second day total to post a 601 (+25). The top three teams at the end of play tomorrow will advance to the National Championship.

"Our guys fought hard today," said head coach Tyler Bishop. "The scores were a little higher than we hoped for but we are in a great position to go out and have a strong third round. We are going to give it everything we got tomorrow and we are excited for the challenge."

Sophomore Dylan Plis (Camillus, N.Y.) lead the charge from the no. 3 slot for Pierce shooting a 74 (+2), the lowest score of the round for the Crimson and Grey. He tallied two birdies on the day to go along with 12 pars and currently ranks second in the field of golfers in total pars (28). Junior Sam Myers (Colchester, Vt.) fired a 77 (+5), the second lowest score on the day for FPU which included a stretch of 10 consecutive pars from hole 17 to hole 7.

Junior Keeton Foster (Spofford, N.H.) was the Ravens most improved golfer as he was the only member to subtract strokes from his card dropping three off to post a 78 (+6). Nathan Patterson (Conway, Mass.) who produced yesterday's low round, shot a 79 (+7) and Liam Donohue (Vernon, Conn.) tacked on an 83 (+11).

Donohue and the Ravens will tee off on the first hole tomorrow at noon for the third and final round.
