Men's Golf Ties For Fifth at South Carolina

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (March 19, 2019) The Franklin Pierce University men's golf team wrapped up their final round at the North Greenville University Men's Invitational Tuesday. The Ravens tied for fifth at their spring opening tournament.

The Raven men entered their final 18 holes in second place shooting 300 (+12) on the par 72 Columbia Country Club course. They tacked on 11 strokes during the second round Tuesday combining for a 311 (+23) total falling into a tie of fifth place (611, +35). Catawba College climbed into first place after finishing Monday tied for fourth completing their rounds at 596 (+20). Erskine College (602, +26) and Southern Wesleyan (603, +27) also gained spots to close out the top three.

Sophomore Dylan Plis (Camillus, N.Y.) supported the Ravens with a seventh-place finishing firing a 148 (+4). He paced the field in total birdies (8) and was the only Pierce athlete to place within the top-10.

 

Round One – Monday

Three Raven golfers ranked within the tournament top-10. Plis carried the Ravens and stood in fifth place rifling an even 72. Junior transfer Nathan Patterson (Conway, Mass.) shot a one over 73 and is currently tied for sixth place. Junior Sam Myers (Colchester, Vt.) rounded out the top-10 showings turning in a 74 (+2) scorecard good enough for ninth place.

Juniors Keeton Foster (Spofford, N.H.) and Anthony Vincequere (Millbury, Mass.) fired 81 (+9) and 85 (+13) performances.

 

Round Two – Tuesday

Foster and Vincequere dropped strokes from their scorecards. Foster produced an 80 (+8) to push hit two round total to 161 (+17). Vincequere was the most improved Raven golfer decreasing his round by three, 82 (+10) to finish at 167 (+23).

Plis, Myers, and Patterson all added strokes to their cards, but Myers (150, 6) and Patterson (152, +8) finished in the top-15 at 11th and 12th place respectively. Myers deadlocked for second in par 3 scoring (3.13, +1) and in birdies (7) while Patterson ranked third in pars (23) throughout both rounds.

Franklin Pierce heads back to New Hampshire before embarking on the Assumption College Invitational on Saturday, April 13th and the Blackstone National Golf Club.
