Foster, Plis Garner Top-15 Finishes, Men’s Golf Places Seventh in Maryland

CROFTON, Md. (March 27, 2018) Franklin Pierce University men's golfers Keeton Foster (Spofford, N.H.) and Dylan Plis (Camillus, N.Y.) finished within the top-15 as the Ravens wrapped up their first tournament of the spring, the Coaches Invitational Classic hosted by the California University of Pennsylvania.

The classic took place at the Crofton Country Club, a par 72, 6,905-yard course. Foster totaled a three-round card of 232 (+16) for a tie for 11th place while Plis shot 233 (+17) tying with three other golfers for 15th.

As a team, the Crimson and Grey finished in seventh place as they fell two spots in the team rankings after shooting a day one 626 (+50). Franklin Pierce followed that up with a Tuesday 315 (+27) to total 941 (+77). The host Vulcans remained in first and took home the team title. Northeast-10 Conference opponent Bentley University and Concordia College rounded out the top three.

Day One - Monday

The Ravens were ranked fifth in the field of 13 squads. They shot a first-round total 320 (+32) and improved drastically as the day moved on as they knocked off 14 strokes in the second round to finish at 306 (+18). Overall, FPU sits at 626 (+50) and is only eight strokes behind the clubhouse leaders, Concordia College, the host Vulcans and Northeast-10 Conference opponent Bentley University.

A trio of Pierce golfers ranked within the classic top-15. FPU was led by Plis who jumped 15 spots in the individual rankings following the first round into a tie for seventh by punching home a 154 (+10). Plis shot a 74 (+2) in round two on the links. Foster chipped in a 155 (+11) into a tie for 11th as he dropped five strokes off his round one scorecard. Team captain Tom Arisco (Cheshire, Conn.) is tied with Foster for 11th place as the senior knocked off one stroke from his opening 18 total.

Liam Donohue (Vernon, Conn.) and Sam Myers (Colchester, Vt.) concluded the team scoring with 162 (+18) and 168 (+24) showings while Anthony Vincequere (Millbury, Mass.) competed as an individual and sported a 167 (+23) card.  

Day Two – Tuesday

Foster remained in 11th place as he only tacked on two strokes to his day two showing (77, +5). Plis fell out of the top-10 to 15th by adding five strokes on to the second round scorecard. Arisco tallied an 84 (+12) to finish the classic at 239 (+23), Myers was the most improved Raven golfer Tuesday by subtracting seven (75, +3) from his round two score. Donohue, the last scoring member of the team was forced to withdraw from the classic due to an illness. Vincequere completed the two days of competition at 255 (+16).

The Ravens return to the course in two weeks when they travel to the Penn Oaks Golf Club in West Chester, Pa.
