Tyler Bishop Named New Men's & Women's Golf Head Coach

Bishop has extensive ties to Franklin Pierce and the game of golf

RINDGE, N.H. (June 13, 2013) – Franklin Pierce University Director of Athletics Bruce Kirsh announced on Thursday that Tyler Bishop has been named the new, full-time head coach of the Ravens men’s and women’s golf programs.

The women’s program will begin intercollegiate competition in the 2014-15 season, after being discontinued as a varsity sport 10 years ago. The men’s program has proven to be one of the most competitive in the Northeast-10 Conference the past several years, including reaching the 2012 NCAA Division II Tournament and winning multiple events during the 2012-13 season.

“I want to thank Bruce Kirsh and the athletic department staff for giving me this exciting opportunity,” Bishop said. “The men’s program has had a strong run of success recently and we will look to build upon that. The new women’s program and the challenge of building it from the ground up is an exciting one. We will look to build the women’s team into a competitive program right away which will mirror the men’s program.”

Bishop has extensive ties to the game of golf and Franklin Pierce University. He was a three-year standout as a closer for the Ravens baseball program from 2006-08. Bishop, who ranks second in program history with 53 career appearances, helped lead the Ravens to three NCAA East Regional championships as a player. After graduation, he joined the program as a graduate assistant coach for two seasons and helped lead the team to the 2010 regional championship and a semifinal appearance in the Division II World Series.

He earned his MBA in leadership from Franklin Pierce in the spring of 2010 and moved into the role of Development Officer for the University, which he has served in for the past two-and-a-half years.

Bishop has also been long involved in the game of golf as his family features multiple Head PGA Professionals, including his father, Ted, who is the Director of Golf and General Manager of Candia Woods in Candia, N.H. Bishop’s brother, Shaun, is the head pro and Director of Golf at The Oaks Golf Links.

Bishop had an accomplished high school playing career, as he was a four-year all-state honoree at Milford High School, including earning first-team honors during each of his final three seasons. He also competed for several years in the New Hampshire Junior Golf Association. Bishop has also spent time working for golf courses, including at Candia Woods, where he worked his way up to being an assistant manager and helping to run camps, clinics and leagues.

“Tyler Bishop is an outstanding individual, who is driven to succeed in everything that he does,” Kirsh said. “I’ve known him for several years, and whether as a student-athlete, coach or administrator, he has always carried himself with class and expects the same of others. I believe he will do a great job leading both the men’s and women’s golf programs at Franklin Pierce.”
