Franklin Pierce 19th at Duke Nelson Invitational

Smith paces Ravens with two-day score of 162 for 42nd overall

MIDDLEBURY, Vt.  (September 15, 2003) - The Franklin Pierce men's golf team opened its fall schedule with a 19th place finish at the 20th Annual Duke Nelson Invitational, hosted by Middlebury College, over the weekend.

Franklin Pierce posted a two-day score of 681 and were led by senior Mike Smith (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) who placed 42nd overall with a 162 score. He rebounded from an opening-round 84 to post a 78 on Sunday.

Classmate Alex Hodgman (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) came in second for the Ravens with a 166 (82-84) for a 63rd-place finish. Senior Paul Izzi (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) weighed in with a 172 (85-87) for 80th overall.

Clarkson College took the team title with a 618 score, while Hamilton College's Brian Williams earned medallist honors with a two-day score of 147 (76-71).

Franklin Pierce returns to the links this weekend when it participates in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by Le Moyne College, in Syracuse, N.Y.
