Men's Basketball: Ravens Slip in Close 64-59 Loss to Southern New Hampshire University

MANCHESTER, N.H. (11/18/23) – The Franklin Pierce men's basketball team came up short against their inter-state rival Southern New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 64-59.

 HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Ravens opened the game with a 9-4 run thanks to a 3-pointer from RJ Delahaye (Newburgh, N.Y.) and a couple of buckets from Jarnel Snow-Guzman (Lynn, Mass.) and Pierce Prendergast (Bayport, N.Y.) 

  • Ugo Nwachukwu (Imo State, Nigeria) helped stretch the Ravens lead later on with a successful free throw to make it a 17-9 lead 

  • Both teams traded baskets to end the first half, but the Ravens would come away with the first half lead 29-27, thanks to a jumper from Sean Trumper (Ashford, UK) and a layup from Ugo Nwachukwu 

  • Sean Trumper continued the Ravens momentum in the second half by drilling a three-pointer to give them a 32-29 lead  

  • The Penmen would go on an 11-5 run to take the lead, 43-40 after a three-pointer from Noah Kamba 

  • The Penmen stretched their lead later on to 4 with a pair of made free throws by Kurtis Henderson, making it 58-54. Andrew Politi (Salem, N.H.) quickly answered for the Ravens by draining a three to make it a one-point game, 58-57 Penmen.  

  • The Ravens late efforts were not enough, as the Penmen closed out the game strong and took down their archrival, 64-59. 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:  

  • Sean Trumper led the Ravens with 13 points, and added 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks. 

  • Ugo Nwachukwu recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  

NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: 

  • The Ravens will get three days to rest before heading North to Burlington, Vermont to take on the Saint Michael's Purple Knights on November 21st at 5:00 P.M.
