Men's Basketball Advances to Semifinals with Decisive Victory Over Assumption

Rindge, N.H. (February 28, 2022) – The Franklin Pierce University Men's Basketball Team got down to brass tax in the quarterfinal round of the NE10 Championship, defeating #6 seeded Assumption University by a final score of 86-73. Five separate players hit the double-digit mark on the score sheet in the effort, with junior guard Isaiah Moore (Temple Hills, MD.) and junior forward Maxwell Zegarowski (South Hamilton, Mass.) leading the way for the Ravens.

Things got off to a shaky start for Franklin Pierce, as the Greyhounds accelerated out of the gate to a quick 7-0 lead in the first minute and a half. However, after an early timeout, Zegarowski quickly turned the tides and got the Ravens back into the action, putting up 5 points in back-to-back fashion. From there on, the junior forward would be in control through the first half, sending home a total of 12 points. Freshman Mohamad Traore (Hyde Park, Mass.) sparked the offense as well, going 2-3 from the arc, scoring 6 of what would become 11 total points. Sophomore forward Sean Bresnan (Yonkers, N.Y.) and freshman Sean Trumper (Ashford, United Kingdom) helped out defensively in the first, with Bresnan collecting 6 total rebounds and Trumper snagging 5. As a team, the Ravens raked in 20 rebounds, and took a fragile 44-38 lead to the 2nd half.

Recently named NE10 "Player of the Year" Isaiah Moore saw success on the Ravens radar in the 2nd half, scoring eight unanswered points early on. Around the mid-way point the the 2nd half, junior guard Brandon Kolek (Cumberland R.I.) joined Moore in providing the Ravens with some much needed insurance, scoring a split set of three pointers. From that point, it was all about holding the lead for Franklin Pierce, which eventually led to some free-throw success in the final stages of the contest. Moore finished the night with a team-leading 15 points scored.

With the win, the Ravens are heading to Pace University for a matchup in the NE10 Cahmpionship Semifinals this Thursday, tip-off at 7PM E.T.
