Second-Half Surge Sends Men’s Basketball Past Saint Rose, 89-72

Isaiah Moore

ALBANY, N.Y. (February 10, 2022) –– Two nights after an ugly game from three-point distance, the Franklin Pierce University men's basketball team found its range on Thursday, as the Ravens knocked down 15 triples, including 3-of-5 to start the second half and break the game open, on the way to an 89-72 road win over Northeast-10 Conference foe Saint Rose. Junior Isaiah Moore (Temple Hills, Md.) led the way with 23 points, while Maxwell Zegarowski (South Hamilton, Mass.) cashed in 16 more, as all five Ravens starters finished in double figures. Saint Rose freshman Shane O'Dell led all scorers and all rebounders with a 30-point, 10-rebound double-double in defeat at Nolan Gymnasium.

The Ravens move to 11-7 (8-5 NE10) with the win, while the Golden Knights fall to 10-10 (7-8 NE10).

Saint Rose jumped to an early, 15-8 lead only five minutes into the first half, which forced Franklin Pierce head coach David Chadbourne to call an early timeout. After the timeout, the Ravens were able to stick with the Golden Knights through the rest of the first half, and jump to a 44-39 lead at halftime.

Franklin Pierce was off to a hot start in the second half and never looked back in this game. The Ravens went 7-for-11 from the floor to start the half, which keyed a 22-4 run and took the drama out of the rest of the proceedings.

The Ravens had a good shooting night all around, consisting of 49.2% from the field (32-for-65) and 48.4% from the three-point line (15-for-31). On the other side of the ball, the Golden Knights shot 41.8% from the field (28-for-67), but struggled from the three-point line at 36% (9-for-25). The Ravens grabbed 42 total rebounds, to 32 for the Golden Knights.

All five Franklin Pierce starters finished in double digits on Thursday, but Moore was the cream of the crop. An 11-for-23 shooting night led to 23 points, and he dished out seven assists along the way as well, to go with four rebounds and a blocked shot.

Not to be outdone, O'Dell tried to single-handedly carry the Golden Knights. He finished 11-for-25 from the floor, including a quartet of triples in eight chances, on the way to a 30-point, 10-rebound double-double, which also included two assists, two steals and a block.

This weekend, the Ravens head back to the Fieldhouse to face off against Saint Michael's College in another NE10 matchup on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 3:30 p.m.
