RINDGE, N.H. (January 25, 2022) – Following a last-second win from the women's team, the Franklin Pierce University men's basketball team took the court for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup with the Pace University Setters and survived some late drama themselves. Junior Isaiah Moore (Temple Hills, Md.), sophomore Matt Hofrenning (Minneapolis, Minn.), freshman Mohamed Traore (Hyde Park, Mass.) and junior Maxwell Zegarowski (South Hamilton, Mass.) all scored in double figures for the Ravens in an 89-85 win at home in the Fieldhouse.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves 8-5 (5-3 NE10) and remains undefeated at home this season (5-0). With the loss, Pace falls to 10-7 (6-4 NE10).

The Ravens came out firing in the first half, as they took a total of 40 shot attempts and connected on 19 of them for a 47.5% shooting percentage. Hofrenning was perfect 6-for-6, including four triples, on his way to 16 points in the stanza. Moore followed closely behind with six buckets of his own for 13 points. Junior Bryan Powell found himself eight points in the half to lead the Setters, and the Ravens took a 46-37 halftime lead into the locker room.

The Setters mounted a comeback in the second half, as they shot 58.6% from the field (17-for-29) and drained seven of 12 shots from three-point range to outscore the Ravens 48-43 in the half. The deficit was trimmed to just three points in the final 20 seconds of the game, before junior Brandon Kolek (Cumberland, R.I.) hit a desperation three-pointer as the shot clock expired to give the Ravens some breathing room. Pace made it interesting with a three-pointer of its own, but ultimately The Ravens would hold on for the win, 89-85.

Moore dropped 24 points while dishing out five assists and recording two steals to lead the way for the Ravens. He was followed by 18 points from Hofrenning, 14 from Traore, and 13 from Zegarowski.

Powell paced the game and the Setters with 29 points in 38 minutes on the court. He also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to finish one shy of a double-double. Powell was joined in double figures by 10 points each from graduate student Austin Gilbertson, graduate student Brandon Jacobs and junior Brandon Powell.

Next up for the Ravens is an NE10 matchup against the American International Yellow Jackets on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Fieldhouse.
