Franklin Pierce men's basketball

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (January 22, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University men's basketball team was consistent on Saturday afternoon, as the Ravens collected 30 points in each half on the road at Adelphi. The host Panthers joined the trend in the first half as well, with 30 points of their own. Unfortunately for the Ravens, Adelphi had other ideas in the second half, as the Panthers poured in 46 points after halftime to cruise to a 76-60 win.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 7-5 (4-3 NE10), while Adelphi improves to 12-6 (7-4 NE10).

The first half was a back and forth affair, as the Ravens and Panthers both struggled to build momentum, on the way to the level, 30-30 halftime score. The Panthers began to build their advantage as the second half went on, as they constructed a lead which topped out at 21 points inside the final 2 minutes. The Ravens would tighten things up marginally at the end, but it would be a 16-point victory for Adelphi.

Adelphi found its advantage largely by simply outshooting the Ravens. The Panthers hit at 46% on the afternoon (28-for-61), including 15 triples (15-for-31), while Franklin Pierce clicked at just 38% (22-for-58). The Ravens used 10 offensive rebounds to chalk up a 19-2 edge in second-chance points, but gave nearly all of it back with a lack of ball security, as Adelphi posted a 22-10 advantage in points off of turnovers.

Junior Maxwell Zegarowski (South Hamilton, Mass.) led the Ravens with 19 points on 6-for-10 shooting, including a trio of three-pointers. Junior Derrick Obanor (Hyde Park, Mass.) added 12 points off the bench.

Meanwhile, for Adelphi, senior Ronnie Silva led all players with 25 points on 8-for-15 shooting, which included 7-for-11 from long range. It was three Panthers in double digits, as graduate student Chris Coalman contributed 19 points and senior Isaiah Salter chipped in 14. Junior Aristotelis Sotiriou snagged a game-best 10 rebounds.

Next up for the Ravens is a home matchup against Pace, set for Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m.
