WILMINGTON, Del. (November 16, 2019) – It was raining three-pointers as the Franklin Pierce University men's basketball team held on to beat Goldey-Beacom College 84-82 on Saturday afternoon. A quartet of Ravens scored double-digits led by Doyin Fadojutimi (Temple Hills, Md.) in the victory. With the win, the crimson and grey improve to 2-1 on the year while the Lightning fall to 0-4.

Fadojutimi finished the game with a team-best 22 points on 8-for-16 shooting including 4-of-9 from three-point range while adding a game-high seven rebounds, and three steals. He also became the 35th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points with a triple with 10:19 left in the second half.

Falu Seck (Washington, D.C.), Isaiah Moore (Temple Hills, Md.), and Sean Fasoyiro (Houston, Texas) also reached double-figures and were efficient in their pursuits. Seck poured home 20 points on 6-for-9 shooting including 4-of-6 from downtown. Moore added 15 points while shooting 75% and hitting one triple while also dishing out four assists. Fasoyiro had 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting to go with five rebounds, a steal, and a block.

Sam van Oostrum (Sheffield, England) was crucial down the stretch and finished with a game-high five assists while chipping in five points, four boards and a pair of steals.

For the Lightning, Jesiah White pace a trio of players in double-figures as he poured in a game-high 23 points on 9-for-11 shooting to go with a team-high six boards, three steals and a game-high two blocks. Marcellus Livingston tallied 19 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a game-best four steals. Nazim Derry pitched in 12 points and three assists. Tevin Service was a force on the offensive glass securing four offensive boards to go with eight points.

Franklin Pierce would open up a lead early by connecting on their first eight shots of the game including six triples to lead 22-11 before Seck finally missed a layup with 13:13 left in the half. After a Livingston three-ball, the Ravens proceeded to score 11 of the next 13 points to extend their advantage to 17. A pair of van Oostrum free throws with 41 seconds left in the half would make the Franklin Pierce advantage 19 and would end the first-half scoring with the crimson and grey leading 48-29.

Pierce was incredibly efficient shooting the ball in the first half by connecting on 69.2% from the field including 72.8 (8-of-11) from downtown. Seck had 13 points while Fadojutimi added a dozen in the half while Livingston carried the hosts with 10 points.

The Ravens would see their lead swell to a game-high 21 after a Fadojutimi jumper out of the break. West answered with a layup before a Moore jump shot off a Fadojutimi assist extended the lead back to 21 again at 52-31 with 18:37 left in the half.

However, then the Lightning began to claw their way back beginning with a dunk by West that sparked an 8-0 run that spanned less than two minutes before Moore finally ended the Franklin Pierce scoring drought with a layup with 16:46 remaining. Goldey-Beacom got within 12 points after another layup by West with 11:56 remaining but then Fadojutimi went on an 8-2 run on his own capped off by a steal and a dunk with 10:02 left.

Over the following five minutes out of a Lightning timeout, Goldey-Beacom outscored the Ravens 18-to-4 to make it a two-possession game at 73-69, however, a triple by Seck ended the run. A pair of Seck free throws with 3:05 remaining made the Franklin Pierce lead nine again, but Goldey-Beacom answered once more scoring six points in under a minute on two West free throws and a pair of Livingston layups to get within one possession at 80-77. Seck hit a pair from the charity stripe but Livingston answered with a jumper to cut the Franklin Pierce edge to three again.

West made another layup with 25 seconds remaining to make it a one-point game. The Lightning fouled intentionally and Sean Bresnan (Yonkers, N.Y.) made one of two free throws. Derry was then fouled on a drive to the basket with four seconds left and a chance to tie the game but only made one of two. Van Oostrum grabbed the board and was once again fouled and split his chances at the line with two seconds remaining. However, he made up for it by jumping the inbound pass and grabbing a steal to ice the game.

West had a huge second half for Goldey-Beacom scoring 18 points while Derry added 11 to lead the unsuccessful comeback.

The hosts took advantage of their second-chances accumulating 12 points off 11 offensive rebounds. They failed to capitalize on their extra possessions by only outscoring the Ravens 24 to 22 off turnovers despite Franklin Pierce committing 28 turnovers against the Lightning 19. Goldey-Beacom also dominated in the paint outscoring the crimson and grey 44-34, but the Ravens were more effective shooting the three connecting on 45.8% of their chances from deep while holding the Lightning to shoot just 29.2% from long range.

Franklin Pierce will look to win their third consecutive game when they open up their Northeast-10 Conference slate by traveling to no. 21 nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College on Saturday, November 23rd for a 3:30 p.m. tipoff.
