#14 Men's Basketball Explodes in Second Half for 91-71 Win over Le Moyne

Ryen Vilmont scores 14 of his 17 points in the second half

RINDGE, N.H. (January 12, 2013) -- The No. 14 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University men's basketball team overcame a shaky first half performance and exploded in the second half to pull off a 91-71 come-from-behind win over Le Moyne on Saturday afternoon at The Fieldhouse in Rindge. The Ravens improved to 10-3 overall and 7-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Dolphins dipped to 7-6 and 4-5 in league play.

Four Ravens scored in double-figures, led by senior guard Eric Jean-Guillaume (Stamford, Conn.), who pumped in 22 of his career-high 29 points in the second half to help proprel Franklin Pierce to victory. Jean-Guillaume was 7-of-8 from the floor in the second half, including an eye-popping 6-of-6 from three-point range.

Jean-Guillaume led an impressive three-point barrage from Franklin Pierce, as the Ravens shot a blistering 74 percent (14-of-19) from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes.

Sophomore forward Ryen Vilmont (Philadelphia, Pa.) followed with 17 points, including 14 in the second half on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor and 4-of-6 from three-point range.

Junior guard Curtis Christian (Harlem, N.Y.) netted 11 points off the bench, including knocking down three treys, and junior forward Ellis Cooper (Northampton, Mass.) added 10.

Franklin Pierce could not get into any sort of rhythm in the first half, shot just 31 percent from the field, and found itself trailing 40-32 at halftime.

Le Moyne, on the other hand, was flying in the first half and used 15 points from Nate Gause to take the eight-point lead into the locker room at halftime.

After a brief halftime talk from head coach David Chadbourne, the Ravens came back out for the second half and quickly went to work unlike the opening 20 minutes.

Franklin Pierce scored 34 of the half's first 41 points to take a 66-47 lead with a little under eight minutes gone by. Vilmont and Jean-Guillaume each rained in three triples apiece in the early stages of the run to spark the Ravens comeback.

Cooper, who came up with several big defensive rebounds in the opening minutes of the frame, added a pair of layups.

The Dolphins were forced to call a pair of timeouts during the surge and none of those did any good in derailing Franklin Pierce's momentum as Vilmont knocked down another three at the 10:05 mark to push the lead out to 20 at 71-51.

Christian then got into the scoring act for Franklin Pierce as he rained in back-to-back triples to make it 79-56.

Le Moyne cut it to 16 in the final minutes of the contest, but that was as close as it would get as the Ravens cruised in for the win.

The Ravens shot 68 percent (21-of-31) from the field in the second half and outscored Le Moyne 59-31. The hot shooting enabled the Ravens to finish with a 49 percent clip for the game.

Franklin Pierce didn't just bring it on the offensive end as it also forced the Dolphins into seven second half turnovers, which the Ravens converted into 16 points. Franklin Pierce, though, committed just two miscues in the half which gave it more offensive possessions to pull off the win.

The Ravens outrebounded Le Moyne, 16-7, in the half and finished with a final margin of 34-26. Vilmont and Cooper each had seven boards for Franklin Pierce.

Gause netted 24 points for Le Moyne, while brian Zapisek followed with 13. Gamal Mohamed and Jim Janson followed with 11 and 10 points, respectively, as the Dolphins shot a strong 54 percent (28-of-52) from the field.

The win was Franklin Pierce's fifth-straight victory overall at home, and its 12th-consecutive regular season triumph in the confines of The Fieldhouse.

The Ravens return to action Tuesday night when they play host to New Haven at 7:30 p.m. in The Fieldhouse in Rindge.
