Field Hockey Drops 3-0 Loss to Adelphi

Garden City, NY (9/30/23) -- After upsetting the No. 4 Ranked Saint Anselm at home, the Franklin Pierce Field Hockey team lost a tough game on the road to the Adelphi Panthers 3-0 on Saturday.

The loss dropped the Ravens to 3-5 (2-3 NE10) on the season. Adelphi improved to 4-5 (3-2 NE10) on the year.

Offensive pressure from the Panthers came early with six shots on goal, two penalty corners, and even a penalty stroke, all in the first quarter. Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Zoe Noorlag (Amersfoort, Netherlands) and the Raven's backline stepped up when it mattered though keeping the game scoreless through one quarter.

It took until late into the second quarter before either team got on the board. In the final minutes before halftime, Adelphi junior forward Emiline Biggin scored the first goal of the game off a corner pass from junior midfielder Ali Nagy. Closing out the first half, the Panthers lead 1-0.

Things did not get much better for the Ravens in the second half. The Ravens would post their first, and only, shot on goal midway through the third quarter off the stick of sophomore midfielder Lily Zavras (Worcester, MA), but it would be denied by Panthers senior goalkeeper Amanda Montiel. Toward the end of the third quarter, the Panthers got their second goal of the game courtesy of Ali Nagy and an assist from junior midfielder Amanda Lee.

The Panthers scored their third goal in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. After a penalty corner pass from Ali Nagy and a shot from Amanda Lee, junior forward Jillian Riche collected a rebound pass from freshman midfielder Daniella Lister and lifted it into the back of the net for her first goal of the season. The Panthers led 3-0 when time expired.

The Ravens struggled to get out of their own zone due to the relentless offense of Adelphi and because of this, they only posted 1 shot on goal during the entire game. The Panthers meanwhile had 13 shots on goal and put Zoe Noorlag under pressure. The freshman goalkeeper was able to make 10 saves off those 13 shots.

NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens' next matchup is the start of a two-game home stretch. The first of these matchups is an afternoon game against Molloy on Wednesday, October 4th at 3pm at Sodexo Field.
