Rindge, NH (9/26/23) - After a two-loss road trip, the Franklin Pierce field hockey team upset the number four nationally ranked Saint Anselm Hawks 2-1 at Sodexo Field on Tuesday.

This win was the first victory for Franklin Pierce against their intra-state rival in sixteen matchups dating back to September 17th, 2013. With the win, they improved to a 3-4 record (2-2 in NE10). Saint Anselm dropped to a 6-2 record (3-1 in NE10).

The action began early in the game with the Hawks putting pressure on the Ravens, getting a penalty corner in the first two minutes of play. Thanks to a save from freshman goalkeeper Zoe Noorlag (Amersfoort, Netherlands) off the stick of Hawks junior midfielder Stephanie Sutton-Brown, the game remained scoreless. It would remain scoreless until twelve minutes into the first quarter when junior midfielder Rebecca Phillips (West Amwell, NJ) took a penalty corner shot that bounced off a Hawk defender and into the net.

The Ravens would strike again early in the second quarter. Sophomore midfielder Lily Zavras (Worcester, MA) made a pass across the middle to senior midfielder Silver Clukey (Winslow, ME) who found the open part of the net to extend the Raven's lead to two. The Ravens led 2-0 at the half.

In the second half, the Hawks controlled the ball but were met with a sturdy Ravens back line that continued to make crucial plays. Zoe Noorlag even made a few acrobatic saves when the Hawks were knocking on the door. The rest of the game was a defensive battle until the Hawks finally broke through with sixty-one seconds left in the game via a goal from Hawks sophomore midfielder Marissa Politano. The Ravens were able to burn out the final minute of play, halting a comeback from the Hawks and capturing the 2-1 victory.

The Ravens' two goals were scored by their two leading goal scorers, Rebecca Phillips and Silver Clukey. Phillips picked up her fourth goal of the season and Clukey picked up her fifth. Zoe Noorlag made 14 saves off 15 shots, her second-highest total this season behind her 17 saves against SNHU in the 1-0 overtime loss.

The Ravens will hit the road this weekend for a matinée matchup against Adelphi on Saturday, September 30th in Garden City, NY at Noon.
