RINDGE, N.H. (9/15/2023) –– On a seasonable night at Sodexo Field, the Franklin Pierce field hockey team picked up their first conference win of the season in comeback fashion, defeating the New Haven Chargers, 5-4.

Franklin Pierce improves to (2-2, 1-0 NE-10) with the win. With the loss, New Haven falls to (1-4, 1-1 NE-10).

For the first five minutes of the first quarter, Franklin Pierce controlled possession in the offensive zone with multiple opportunities to score the game's first goal. New Haven's defense stood tall and made stops in the circle. The Ravens had three penalty corner opportunities but were unable to finish the job. Halfway through the first, the Chargers tightened their defense and forced the Ravens to turn the ball over numerous times. The Chargers opened the scoring when they had a penalty corner opportunity. Junior midfielder Johannah Lee connected with freshman forward Femke Boers in the circle, who made a move around sophomore midfielder Lily Zavras (Worcester, MA) and drilled the ball past Zoe Noorlag (Amersfoort, Netherlands) for Lee's second goal of the season. New Haven led 1-0 at halftime.

There was a total of eight goals scored in the final eleven minutes of the third quarter. All of Franklin Pierce's goals came in the third. The Ravens started the quarter strong with good offensive zone entries. Three and a half minutes in, the Chargers forced a turnover near midfield, and senior forward Audrey Larson's shot deflected off a Raven defender in front of Noorlag. Junior forward Abby Nixon settled the ball down and scored her second goal of the season to make it 2-0 New Haven.

Thirty-three seconds later, junior midfielder Rebecca Phillips (West Amwell, NJ) scored her second goal of the season on a penalty corner to cut the New Haven lead in half. A minute and thirteen seconds later, the Chargers recaptured their two-goal lead when senior forward Kat Trammel scored her third goal of the season. Franklin Pierce cut New Haven's lead back to one just two minutes and nineteen seconds later. Junior defender Lexie Frank sent the ball into the circle, and senior midfielder Silver Clukey scored her second goal of the season.

With 5:38 left in the third, the Chargers scored their second goal on a penalty corner to make it 4-2. Junior midfielder Sophia Ruh dished it to Eliza Caven, who scored her first career goal with the Chargers. A minute and twenty-eight seconds later, the Ravens cut the Chargers lead back to one. Phillips scored her second goal of the game on a penalty corner.

With less than two minutes to go in the quarter, the Ravens tied the game at four. Phillips found junior forward Caity Hazley (Kingston, MA) in the circle, who scored her first goal of the season. As the final seconds ticked away in the third, Clukey scored her second goal of the night to make it 5-4 Franklin Pierce. Both Franklin Pierce and New Haven scored two goals on penalty corners.

New Haven goaltender Hallie Reiger played the first half and made four saves. Ally Saigh replaced Reiger for the second half, where she made one save and gave up all five Franklin Pierce goals. Saigh picked up her second loss of the season. Noorlag made six saves and picked up her second win of the season. Addy Araneo (Yorktown Heights, NY) replaced Noorlag for the final quarter and did not face a shot on goal.
