Franklin Pierce field hockey

WORCESTER, Mass. (October 6, 2021) -- No. 3 nationally ranked Assumption scored three goals in the first nine minutes of the game and never looked back on Wednesday night, as the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team suffered a 5-1 loss on the road. Seniors Jenna Graf and Shannon Quinlan each had a goal and an assist to lead the Greyhounds in the Northeast-10 Conference contest, while sophomore Silver Clukey (Winslow, Maine) scored the lone goal in defeat for the Ravens.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 3-8 (1-7 NE10), while Assumption improves to 9-1 (7-0 NE10) and has won nine in a row. The two teams will meet again on Sunday, at 11 a.m. at Franklin Pierce, in a non-conference contest.

Assumption came out flying from the opening whistle, and opened the scoring just 79 seconds into the proceedings. Graf buried a shot from the top of the circle for her second goal of the season. Less than six minutes later, in the eighth minute, senior Deirdre Burchill made it 2-0, as she had the finish in the goal mouth off a tic-tac-toe setup from senior Isabel Primack and senior Sydney Bouchard, the latter of which picked up the assist on the play.

In the ninth minute, Quinlan made it three goals in a span of just 7:29 for the Greyhounds. She took a feed from junior Christina Leonard and flipped it into the top-right corner of the net for her second goal of the campaign.

Franklin Pierce's only tally of the night came off a corner play in the 13th minute. Clukey inserted the ball and cut to the left post. Once there, she took a return feed from sophomore Julia Rooijakkers (Eindhoven, Netherlands) and finished off her third goal of the year.

Assumption added a pair of third-quarter goals to create the 5-1 final. In the 32nd minute, just 89 seconds into the second half, Graf took a drive from outside the circle which freshman Mia Salah redirected home for her sixth of the season. In the 39th minute, senior Summer Walsh was out front and knocked home a feed from Quinlan to cap the scoring.

Freshman Addy Araneo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) faced a bombardment of 19 shots in front of the Franklin Pierce cage and made 14 saves while taking the loss (3-4). Senior Kylie Gargiulo (9-1) stopped three of four shots to pick up the win for Assumption.
