Carly Canavan Named Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week

Freshman earns award for second time

Canavan Canavan earned her second Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week award of the season after her hat trick at Stonehill last week.

RINDGE, N.H. (October 27, 2014) – Freshman forward Carly Canavan (Kingston, N.Y.) of the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team has been named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending on Oct. 26, as announced Monday by the Conference office.

Canavan tallied six points on three goals last week in what was a 1-1 week for the Ravens. She did all her damage on Tuesday night, as she scored all three of the team's goals, including the game-winner, in Franklin Pierce's 3-2, come-from-behind, upset win on the road at No. 4 nationally ranked Stonehill. Canavan's hat trick was the ninth in program history and the first for the Ravens since Oct. 12, 2011.

On the season, Canavan has started all 12 games for the Ravens and is tied for the team lead in scoring with 10 points. She has scored five goals, including one game-winner, on 25 shot attempts, including 13 shots on goal.

It is the second time this season Canavan has earned Rookie of the Week honors from the Northeast-10, as she was also honored for the week ending on Sept. 14. She is the only player in the league to twice be named Rookie of the Week thus far in 2014.

The Ravens (5-7, 2-3 Northeast-10) return to the field on Wednesday, Oct. 29, when they return home to host Bentley in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Sodexo Field in Rindge.
