North Squad falls 4-1; Ravens duo competes with top D-II players

Simeone Simeone was one of two Ravens to participate in the NFHCA North/South Senior Game in Louisville on Friday evening.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (December 3, 2010) – Senior midfielders Jordan Baillargeon (Westfield, Mass.) and Kayla Simeone (North Kingstown, R.I.) of the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team both participated in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association North/South Senior Game, hosted by the University of Louisville on Friday evening.

The duo joined 17 of their Northeast-10 Conference brethren on the North Squad for the all-star game against the South Squad. When all was said and done, the South Squad put away a 4-1 victory, though Franklin Pierce Head Coach Meighan Guiney was plenty impressed with what her seniors brought to the table for the North Squad.

"Their work in the midfield and their midfield passing was great all night long and both had some opportunities offensively," said Guiney. "Jordan even got some time at forward, a position she didn't play for us all season long. Overall, they both had a really good experience playing both with and against the top players in Division II."

Simeone and Baillargeon finished third and tied for fourth, respectively in scoring for the Ravens this fall. Simeone finished with 17 points on six goals and five assists, including a four-goal, one-assist, nine-point performance against Saint Anselm on Sept. 29 which set school records for goals and points in a single game. Meanwhile, Baillargeon posted 10 points on four goals and two assists. Both seniors played in all 19 games for the Ravens.

Simeone did not miss a game in her career and finished tied for the most games played in program history (76). Baillargeon missed only a pair of games in her freshman season and finished her career tied for third in school history in games played (74) and tied for eighth in assists (8).

The Ravens have now had players participate in the North/South Senior Game in two of the last three seasons, as Steph Howard and Kayleigh Jaksina made the trip in 2008 at the end of their senior season.

The Ravens finished the season at 9-10 and posted a 6-4 record in Northeast-10 Conference play to earn their second postseason appearance in three years. The 6-4 record in league play marked the first time the program finished above .500 in the conference since 2000. It was the second year in a row the team finished with nine wins, which is two shy of the program record, set in 2000.
