Dolan adds assist, Nyzio makes three saves

Noddin Noddin scored the first goal of her career in Saturday afternoon's 2-0 win over Bentley.

RINDGE, N.H. (October 9, 2010) – Junior midfielder Kim Jaksina (Townsend, Mass.) scored the eventual game-winning goal 11:32 into the first half and freshman midfielder Liz Noddin (Skowhegan, Maine) added another goal 8:20 later on Saturday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Bentley in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Junior goalkeeper Brittany Nyzio (Attleboro, Mass.) made three saves to pick up her third shutout of the season for the Ravens.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 5-5 (2-0 Northeast-10), while Bentley falls to 4-6 (1-2 Northeast-10).

The Ravens picked up the only two goals of the game less than nine minutes apart in the first half. The first came directly off a penalty corner, as junior forward Danielle Dolan (West Brookfield, Mass.) put the ball in play to Jaksina just outside the circle on the left side. Jaksina stepped into the circle and unloaded a blast which found the back of the cage for her fifth goal of the season. It was Jaksina's fourth goal of the week after her hat trick on Tuesday afternoon at Saint Michael's.

It only took 8:20 for the Ravens to find the net again. Amidst a flurry of action inside the circle, junior forward Tia Levins (Manchester, Maine) took a shot from the left side. It was kicked away by Bentley sophomore goalkeeper Julia Powell, but the rebound came directly to Noddin on the left side of the circle. Noddin sent it back where it came from, beat Powell and found the cage for her first career goal.

Franklin Pierce was dominant throughout the first half, to the tune of a 17-2 shots advantage, which included a 13-0 margin in shots on goal, and an 8-1 edge in penalty corners. Over the course of the full 70 minutes, the Ravens enjoyed a 21-10 advantage in shots, a 16-3 margin in shots on goal and an 11-4 edge in penalty corners.

Nyzio stopped all three shots on her cage to post her third shutout of the season, and fourth of her career, while picking up the win (4-5) for Franklin Pierce. Powell made 14 saves against 16 shots, but took the loss (4-4) between the pipes for Bentley.

The Ravens return to the field on Wednesday, Oct. 13, when they travel to Assumption for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Multi-Sport Stadium in Worcester, Mass.
