Jaksina lands on Second Team, Juszczyk on All-Rookie Team

Kimberly Jaksina Kimberly Jaksina has been selected to the All-Northeast-10 Conference Second Team.

RINDGE, N.H. (November 2, 2009) – Sophomore midfielder Kimberly Jaksina (Townsend, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team has been named to the All-Northeast-10 Conference Second Team, as announced Friday night by the conference office. In addition, freshman midfielder Alyssa Juszczyk (Warren, Mass.) has been named to the conference’s All-Rookie Team.

Jaksina started all 18 games for the Ravens and finished second on the team with 12 points, a 10-point improvement over her freshman campaign of 2008. She scored five goals, including a game-winner, and added the first two assists of her career. On Sept. 19 against American International, Jaksina posted the first multiple-goal game of her career, as she scored twice in a 4-1 Ravens win. On Oct. 17 against Massachusetts Lowell, she converted the first penalty stroke of her career and followed that four days later with the first game-winning goal of her career in a 3-2 victory over Saint Anselm.

A contributor at both ends of the field, Jaksina picked up a pair of defensive saves on the season. Jaksina was named Northeast-10 Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year and was selected to the womensfieldhockey.com Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Oct. 4 and was later selected to the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Oct. 18.

Juszczyk also started all 18 games for the Ravens and led the team’s freshmen in scoring with one goal and two assists for four points. She picked up her first collegiate point with an assist in Franklin Pierce’s win over American International on Sept. 19. Later, she would score the first goal of her career in the Ravens 3-1 upset of then-No. 4 nationally ranked Stonehill on Oct. 7.

The Ravens (9-9, 5-5 Northeast-10) recently concluded the program’s most successful season since the 2003 squad went 9-9 (8-8 Northeast-10). It marks Franklin Pierce’s most successful campaign yet under fourth-year head coach Meighan Guiney.
