RINDGE, N.H. (November 2,
2009) – Sophomore midfielder Kimberly
Jaksina (Townsend, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce
University field hockey team has been named to the All-Northeast-10
Conference Second Team, as announced Friday night by the conference
office. In addition, freshman midfielder Alyssa Juszczyk
(Warren, Mass.) has been named to the conference’s
All-Rookie Team.
Jaksina started all 18 games for the Ravens and finished second on
the team with 12 points, a 10-point improvement over her freshman
campaign of 2008. She scored five goals, including a game-winner,
and added the first two assists of her career. On Sept. 19 against
American International, Jaksina posted the first multiple-goal game
of her career, as she scored twice in a 4-1 Ravens win. On Oct. 17
against Massachusetts Lowell, she converted the first penalty
stroke of her career and followed that four days later with the
first game-winning goal of her career in a 3-2 victory over Saint
Anselm.
A contributor at both ends of the field, Jaksina picked up a pair
of defensive saves on the season. Jaksina was named Northeast-10
Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year and was selected to the
womensfieldhockey.com Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Oct.
4 and was later selected to the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll for
the week ending on Oct. 18.
Juszczyk also started all 18 games for the Ravens and led the
team’s freshmen in scoring with one goal and two assists for
four points. She picked up her first collegiate point with an
assist in Franklin Pierce’s win over American International
on Sept. 19. Later, she would score the first goal of her career in
the Ravens 3-1 upset of then-No. 4 nationally ranked Stonehill on
Oct. 7.
The Ravens (9-9, 5-5 Northeast-10) recently concluded the
program’s most successful season since the 2003 squad went
9-9 (8-8 Northeast-10). It marks Franklin Pierce’s most
successful campaign yet under fourth-year head coach
Meighan Guiney.
