Franklin Pierce Field Hockey Franklin Pierce honored its seniors before the start of Saturday's game against Stonehill.

RINDGE, N.H. (October 18, 2008) – Junior midfielder Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth HS) scored three goals in the second half on Saturday afternoon to lead No. 9 nationally ranked Stonehill to a 6-1 victory over the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Sophomore midfielder Ashley Moirano (Vero Beach, Fla./South Burlington (Vt.)) scored the lone goal of the game for Franklin Pierce.

Stonehill opened the scoring a little over 12 minutes into the first half. Senior defender Kerri Sullivan (Goffstown, N.H./Goffstown) was able to slip a pass behind the Franklin Pierce defense to senior forward Laura Nimon (Gardiner, Maine/Gardiner) who had made a break to the cage. Nimon redirected home her sixth goal of the season at the 12:12 mark to give Stonehill a 1-0 lead. Franklin Pierce evened the score at 1-1 with just 3:40 remaining in the opening frame when Moirano picked up her fifth goal of the season and fourth in as many games as she poked home her own rebound from amidst a scramble in front of the net.

Franklin Pierce held a 5-3 advantage in shots in the first half.

The second half was all Stonehill, as the Skyhawks scored five times to come away with a 6-1 victory. Ladino notched her first of three second-half tallies just 2:33 into the frame off a feed to the right side from junior forward Claire Hourihan. After 10 scoreless minutes, Sullivan would notch her third and fourth goals of the season just 1:12 apart to add to her first-half assist and give Stonehill a 4-1 lead. Sullivan’s first goal came unassisted off a rebound in front of the cage while her second came from the high slot off a feed from the right side by sophomore midfielder Michaela Deasy (North Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth)

Ladino tacked on two insurance goals with 2:26 and 1:29 remaining to notch the hat trick with her ninth and 10th goals of the season, respectively. The second of the pair was unassisted while the first came off a pass from freshman midfielder Hayley O’Brien (Boxborough, Mass./Acton-Boxborough).

Stonehill dominated the second half to the tune of a 16-1 shots advantage, which allowed the Skyhawks to enjoy a 19-6 edge over the full 70 minutes.

Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Osier (South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) made three saves in front of the Stonehill cage to earn the victory. Freshman Kristin Tormollan (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) turned aside seven shots for Franklin Pierce in defeat.

The Ravens (7-10, 7-9 NE-10) return to the field on Wednesday, Oct. 22 for their final home game of the season, when they host Saint Michael’s in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Sodexo Field. Stonehill (10-7, 10-6 NE-10) returns to action on Oct. 22 at Assumption.
