Franklin Pierce Places Two On Northeast-10 All-Academic First Team

Barone and Ellis earn First-Team All-Academic Team accolades 

Elizabeth Ellis Elizabeth Ellis is one of two Ravens named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic First Team.

RINDGE, N.H. (October 31, 2006) – Senior captain Angela Barone (Norwood, Pa./Interboro) and junior captain Elizabeth Ellis (Turner, Maine/Leavitt) of the Franklin Pierce field hockey team were named to the 2006 Northeast-10 All Academic First Team as selected by the Conference’s Sports Information Directors. The announcement was made by the NE-10 office this afternoon.

Barone, a first team NE-10 All-Academic selection for the second-straight year, has earned a 3.77 cumulative grade point average as a music production major at Franklin Pierce. She is a three-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II All-Academic Honor recipient and is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma National Student-Athlete Honor Society.

Barone has been a four year letterwinner for the Franklin Pierce midfield, serving as captain for the 2006 season. She finished her career ranked first all-time with 70 matches played for the Ravens, while starting 67. Barone has been a leader on the field, registering 27 career points, on nine goals and nine assists.

This season, Barone started all 18 games for the Ravens, totaling seven points on two goals (one game-winner) and three assists. The senior mid-fielder was also the core of a Ravens defense that allowed only 2.89 goals per game.

Ellis, a first team NE-10 All-Academic selection for the second-straight year, has earned a 3.88 cumulative grade point average as a marketing major at Franklin Pierce. She has earned two consecutive National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II All-Academic Honors and was named a Commissioner’s Honor Roll Gold Scholar in 2004 for posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Ellis has been a three year starter in the Franklin Pierce midfield, serving as captain for the 2006 season. She has appeared in 54 games for the Ravens, starting 49. This season, the junior mid-fielder started all 18 games, registering five points on a goal and three assists. She recorded her first career goal in a 4-1 setback at Bryant University.

Franklin Pierce ended its season with an overall record of 6-12 and a league mark of 6-10.
