Franklin Pierce Slips Past American International, 3-2
Munson notches first career hat trick in victory
Chelsey Munson scored three times to notch her first career hat
trick on Sunday against American International.

– The Franklin Pierce field hockey team upended visiting
American International College 3-2 in Northeast-10 action this
afternoon. Senior forward Chelsey
Munson (Weybridge, Vt./Middlebury Union) scored all three
goals for the Ravens en route to their second win of the
season.
Munson started the scoring with 11:27 remaining in the first half,
converting on a pass by junior Trisha Langevin (Bellingham,
Mass./Bellingham). She gave the Ravens a 2-0 advantage at
the 8:10 mark in the first half when she batted a Collette Brady (Bellingham,
Mass./Bellingham) cross out of the air and into the net.
Junior defensemen Kiara Mojica (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) got the
Yellow Jackets on the board early in the second half, as she scored
on a feed from senior forward Melissa Cuthbert (Kwazulu Natal, S.
Africa/Westville Girl’s). American International knotted the
score at two with just over eleven minutes remaining in the second
half when freshman forward Nicole Phelps (Nassau, N.Y./Columbia)
scored a goal, also assisted by Cuthbert.
The tie was broken with 10:02 left in the second half when a
scramble in front of the American International net resulted in an
unassisted goal by Munson, her third of the game and fourth of the
season. Franklin Pierce held the lead for the final ten minutes of
the match and went on to win by a final score of 3-2. Junior
goalkeeper Brandi Guertin
(Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) earned her second victory of
the year, saving 13 shots. Cindy Armand (Danvers, Mass./Danvers)
took the loss for the Yellow Jackets despite saving 27 shots.
Franklin Pierce (2-1, 2-1 NE-10) will be in action on Monday, as
they travel to Plymouth State University for a non-conference match
at 4 p.m. American International (0-5, 0-4) will travel to
Merrimack for a Northeast-10 Conference tilt on Wednesday beginning
at 4 p.m.
