Franklin Pierce Tops Saint Anselm, 2-0
Record-breaking day for Jones, Guertin
RINDGE, N.H. (October 7, 2003) –
The Franklin Pierce University field hockey team had a
record-breaking game as they defeated Saint Anselm College 2-0 in
Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action this afternoon.
Alissa Silverman (East Sandwich
Mass./Sandwich) broke the scoreless tie 26:20 into the first
half as she scored off a feed from senior captain Debbie Jones (Escondido,
Calif./Bishops). Jones’ third assist of the season,
the 12th of her career, gave her sole possession of the program
record for career assists, passing Kelly Henry
(’02). Freshman Angela
Barone (Norwood, Pa./Interboro) notched an insurance goal
for the Ravens at 31:05 in the first.
Sophomore goalkeeper Brandi
Guertin (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) recorded her fourth
shutout of the season and made three saves to earn the win. With
this fourth shutout, Guertin broke the Raven’s record for
shutouts in a season set by Kasey McClements in 2002. Saint Anselm
goalkeeper, Lisa Bellantoni (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) made nine
saves for the Hawks and took the loss.
Franklin Pierce (8-6, 7-6 NE-10) hosts C.W. Post on Saturday at
noon in a non-Conference matchup. Saint Anselm (3-9, 2-8 NE-10)
next faces Stonehill at home on Thursday at 4 p.m.
