UMass Lowell Downs Franklin Pierce, 4-0
RINDGE, N.H. (October 4, 2003) –
The Franklin Pierce University field hockey team fell to UMass
Lowell by a score of 4-0 in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey
action this morning.
Martha Marsden (Hull, Mass./Michigan State) opened the scoring
22:32 in to the first half as she connected on a pass from
sophomore Courtney Hill (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) to give the River
Hawks a 1-0 lead. Laura Petros (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury) added
Lowell’s second of the game with 5:33 left in the first off a
feed from Alysia Morgan (Gardner, Mass./Gardner).
Marsden helped give the River Hawks a 3-0 edge as she assisted on
sophomore Taylor Kloss’ (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) third
of the season at 1:42 and then grabbed her second assist of the
game when Morgan gave Lowell their final goal with 6:25 remaining
in regulation.
Franklin Pierce goalkeepers, sophomore Brandi Guertin (Bellingham
Mass./Bellingham) and freshman Amanda Pietrasuk (Clinton, Conn./Morgan
School) combined for seven saves on the afternoon. Senior
Patrice Mendoza (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) recorded two saves
in 57:29 minutes of work, while freshman Nicole Staiti (Barre,
Mass./Quabbin Regional) closed out the game and did not see any
shots.
Franklin Pierce (7-6, 6-6 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday when
it hosts Saint Anselm in a League match at 4 p.m. UMass Lowell
(8-3, 8-1 NE-10) next hosts Saint Michael’s College on
Thursday in a Conference matchup at 7 p.m.
