No. 9 Saint Michaels Tops No. 10 Franklin Pierce, 3-1
COLCHESTER, Vt. (September 23, 2003) -
The No. 10 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce field hockey team
suffered a 3-1 loss to No. 9 Saint Michael’s College in
Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon.
Senior Jenn Gray (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan) opened up the scoring
for the Purple Knights 10:54 into the first half as she drove home
a pass from sophomore Johanne Skelley (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kingswood).
At 15:59 in the first, Gray earned an assist on classmate Jilby
Danis’ (Burlington, Vt./Rice Memorial) ninth goal of the
season to give Saint Michael’s a 2-0 advantage and later
scored her second of the game at the 42:51 mark.
Senior captain Debbie Jones
(Escondido, Calif./Bishops) scored the Ravens’ lone
goal at 65:07 off a feed from classmate Katie Raposa (Tiverton,
R.I./Tiverton).
Junior goalkeeper Jess Anderson (Springfield, Vt./Springfield)
earned the win for the Purple Knights with two saves, while
Franklin Pierce sophomore Brandi
Guertin (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) also registered two
saves.
Franklin Pierce (4-5, 3-5 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when
it travels to No. 6 Bryant College for a game at 10 a.m. Saint
Michael’s (5-4, 4-3 NE-10) visits No. 7 Bentley College on
Saturday for a match at 2 p.m.
