Saint Michael's Blanks FPC, 5-0

COLCHESTER, Vt. (October 13, 2001) - The Franklin Pierce University Women's field hockey team was shut out by Saint Michael's College this afternoon by a score of 5-0.

The Purple Knights jumped out to a one-goal lead at the 19:58 mark of the first half when Chrissy Daly scored on a direct corner on passes from Colleen FitzGerald (E. Falmouth, Mass.) and Kari Surace. The Raven defense held Saint Michael's to one goal on 13 shots in the first half.

Saint Michael's continued the attack in the second half and went up by two when Jilby Danis scored off of passes from teammates Angela Potts and Surace at the 29:09 mark of the second half.

The Purple Knights would go on to score three more unanswered goals to make the final -- Saint Michael's 5, FP 0.

FPC's Irene Smith (Olivebridge, N.Y./Onteora) make eight saves in 44 minutes of work, and Kasey McClements (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) made eight stops in 25 minutes of play. Saint Michael's netminder Meghan Scalley made no saves in the win.

Franklin Pierce (5-9, 4-4 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 16 when they travel to UMass Lowell for a Northeast-10 Conference battle at 7 p.m. Saint Michael's (9-4, 7-1 NE-10) next hosts New England College on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup at 3:30 p.m.
