Bryant Tops FPC, 1-0
SMITHFIELD, R.I. (September 25, 2001) -
Bryant College posted the fourth shutout against Franklin Pierce
University this season as the Bulldogs posted a rain-soaked 1-0
victory in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at the
Bryant Field Hockey Complex this afternoon.
Sophomore midfielder Jean Wall’s first career goal stood up
as the gamewinner and freshman goalkeeper Kristen Patat recorded
her first career shutout with a seven-save performance to lead
Bryant.
Wall converted a pass from Lindsay Schoolcraft with 22:30 left in
the first half to put the Bulldogs up for good. Patat made six of
her saves in the opening stanza and preserved the win with a big
stop in the game’s final seconds.
Junior Kasey McClements (Ashland,
Mass./Ashland) turned in another solid effort in goal for
Franklin Pierce with 12 saves. FP suffered its second 1-0 defeat of
the season in dropping its third-straight match. The Ravens are in
the midst of their second scoring drought of the fall, having been
held scoreless over the last 216:55 after today’s match. FP
suffered through a 239:45 skein to open the year.
Franklin Pierce (2-6, 1-1 NE-10) returns to action on Thursday,
when they travel to Springfield, Mass., to battle American
International College in an NE-10 match rescheduled from September
11 at 4 p.m. Bryant (6-4, 3-2 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday
when they travel to Merrimack College for a Conference match.
