WINCHENDON, Mass. (October 21, 2000) - The Franklin Pierce University field hockey team had its final Northeast-10 Conference regular-season match spoiled Saturday as UMass Lowell rallied for a 3-2 win at the Winchendon School.

The Ravens (9-6, 6-3 NE-10) built a 2-1 lead on second-half goals by Heidi Nichols (Fremont, N.H.) and Karen Clarke (Brewster, N.Y.), but could not protect the advantage.

UMass Lowell (9-10, 3-6 NE-10) tied the game in the 56th minute on a goal by Kelly Ward (Byfield, Mass.) and scored the game-winner in the 67th minute when Keri Noyes (Byfield, Mass.) batted in a pass from Julie Heroux (Bridgewater, Mass.).

The River Hawks came up with the only goal of the first half when Mary Ruggles (Townsend, Mass.) scored on an assist from Ward. UMass Lowell sophomore Patrice Mendoza (Wilmington, Mass.) sparked in net for the River Hawks, making 22 saves.

The loss was FPC's first at home, snapping a six-game win streak there.

The Ravens wrap up the regular season at home Monday with a non-league match against St. Joseph's College. They are expected to host Bryant College in the first round of the NE-10 playoffs on Wednesday.
