Football’s Benitez Picked as NE10 Rookie of the Week Again

MANSFIELD, Mass. (October 18, 2022) -- For the second straight week, and the fourth time this season, freshman Alex Benitez (Belle Meade, N.J.) of the Franklin Pierce University football team has been named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week, this time for the week ending on Oct. 16, as announced on Monday afternoon by the league office.

Benitez punted four times and averaged 40.8 yards per punt on Saturday, in a 37-20 loss at Southern Connecticut State. His longest punt went for 46 yards, and he forced one fair catch. Benitez also rushed the ball five times for 28 yards (5.6 yards per rush) on the afternoon.

On the season, Benitez has punted 39 times and has averaged 36.5 yards per punt across seven games. He has put eight punts inside the opposition's 20-yard line and has forced seven fair catches, without recording a touchback. Benitez's longest punt of the season was a program-record 71-yard boot at Assumption on Oct. 9.

Benitez and the Ravens (1-6, 1-4 NE10) are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 22, as they hold their home finale against Pace. Opening kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Sodexo Field on Hall of Fame Weekend.
