Pets of Raven Nation (Updated: April 10)

Doug Carty with Maggie.

While we're all sidelined this spring, we'd like to try to put a smile on your face every Friday, by sharing some pictures of the pets of Raven Nation. We'll update this page every Friday for as long as we have pics to post.

Are you a student-athlete, coach, member of the general student body, faculty, staff member, alum or member of the Franklin Pierce community who wants to see their pet pictured here? Great! Submissions can be sent to Matthew Janik, Assistant AD/Communication, or Ezra Gennello, staff writer. We'll need pictures of you with your furry friends (preferably with at least one of you in some Ravens gear!), the names of both you and your pet, and some quick fun facts (if Fluffy is crazy for cheeseburgers, let us know!).

We'll feature a few submissions every Friday until we run out of pets to feature, so keep 'em coming!

April 10

First up on Week 4 of "Pets of Raven Nation", we have our first non-dog, non-cat entry in the series. Here, we have Doug Carty '06, Director of Raven Recreation, with his horses, Maggie, Ollie and Uno. Carty and his wife ride horses for both recreation and competition. Carty says he has spent the last 11 years "learning about horses and all the ways they can break things (including me)."

Next up, we have Maria Minor, an assistant professor in Franklin Pierce's MBA program, along with her pupper, Bella. The duo recently participated in an "Iron Dog" competition in Vermont, and they regularly do agility training together.

Head Athletic Trainer Christine Levreault is back home with her parents in Rhode Island during the quarantine. Here she is with their dog, Duke, who is very happy to have been getting lots of extra walks lately.

A pair of alumni submissions round out this week's "Pets of Raven Nation". Here is Boogie, a one-year-old lab mix from Tennessee, who belongs to women's ice hockey alum Casey Diana '17. Boogie has a duck toy, which is his favorite, and is also a big fan of rolling in the nearest puddle of mud. Also answers to Boog, Boogity and Boo-Thang, among others.

Last, but certainly not least, we have a submission from Brianna Somers '15, a former student employee in the Athletic Communication office, and baseball alum Brendan O'Rourke '15. The two have tied the knot since graduating and, in 2018, adopted Brewski, a golden retriever tripaw. If you need more Brewski, you can join his 34,000+ (!!!) Instagram followers (@brewski.o).

We'll be back with more next week. Be good, stay healty!

April 3

It's a faculty-and-staff-heavy week on "Pets of Raven Nation, and we'll kick things off in the Devlopment office. Here is Vice President of University Advancement Julie Zahn with her two doggos, Copper and Burkie.

Sticking in the Development office, this is Director of Alumni & Parent Relations Katie Copeland with Buddy. Buddy is a three-year-old, 70-pound Shepherd mix who Katie says is full of energy. She rescued Buddy two years ago.

On the alumni front, it's time for more Dogs Hanging Out with Hockey Players! This is women's hockey alum Marisa Ketterman '17 with Bane. Bane is Marisa's gigantic, and absolutely adorable, best friend.

Moving back to staff, here is Medical Director Summer Silverman with her little kitty, Peek. Peek is a Russian Peterbald who's always searching for a warm spot in the house.

Lastly this week on "Pets of Raven Nation", we have a submission from the faculty side of things, as Senior Lecturer of Humanities Molly Badrawy sends along this pic of her and her Dachschund, Fritz.

March 27

Leading off this week's edition of "Pets of Raven Nation", we've got Moose. Moose belongs to head baseball coach Mike Chambers. Moose is... appropriately named, to say the least.

A running theme last week was "Dogs in the Rink", and we've got another one fo those for you this week. Here we have Comet, who belongs to women's ice hockey alum Haylea Barbieri '16. Comet is now old enough to drive, as he just turned 16 in January. No word on if he's named after the canine start of "Full House".

Next up, we have this adorable little one, Riley. Riley belongs to field hockey freshman Christine Jarowicz. We're told Riey likes to greet people at the door with whatever random objects he can find in the house. Guest appearance from sophomore Julianne Sacco with Riley here as well.

Next up, all the way from Spain, is Laika, who belongs to men's soccer junior Carlos Ferrando Felis. Carlos and Laika keep in touch via Skype while Carlos is stateside.

Rounding out this week on "The Pets of Raven Nation", we've got Ace, along with men's ice hockey senior captain -- and two-time Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year -- Alex Lester. We didn't get any pics of Ace in the rink, but he sure looks like he'd be happy there, doesn't he?

More to come next week. Be good, stay healthy.

March 20

Leading off the opening week of "Pets of Raven Nation" is the OG herself. You all know Saki and Peanut, who belong to Assistant Athletic Trainer Makina Itchkavich-Levasseur. You can catch Saki around the Athletic Training room on any given day, as the department's official therapy dog. Saki is probably a little jealous all these other pets are getting attention now too!

Next up, we've got Brooks, who was tiny and adorable not that long ago. Now he's bigger, but still adorable. He belongs to head men's ice hockey coach Shaun Millerick. No word on if he's named Brooks because he can track down treats like Brooks Robinson tracked down balls at third base. Or maybe because he's as fiesty as Brooks Orpik on the ice!

Next up are everybody's other favorite hockey dogs, Durango and Paisley! They belong to women's ice hockey alum Shannon O'Neil '17, and were a fixture at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena during Shannon's career. They both enjoyed "cheering on" the Ravens by barking every time the puck came to their corner of the rink. Fun fact: Durango is the only pet of Raven Nation famous enough to have ever been pictured on a gameday program!

Here, we have head volleyball coach Stephanie Dragan and her cat, LuLu. Coach Dragan joined the Ravens in 2009 from North Carolina, as her previous coaching stint was at Western Carolina University. Seven years later, LuLu, as well as her other cat, Colby, joined her as rescues from, you guessed it, North Carolina!

Lastly for our opening installment, we turn to our current student-athletes. This is field hockey junior Nicole Thibeault with her cat, Rico. Nicole looks way happier to be in this photo than Rico, but he's still cute!

We'll be back with more next week. Be good, stay healthy.
