Franklin Pierce Adds Nicholas Ferrara as Assistant Athletic Trainer

New hire brings football experience to Rindge

RINDGE, N.H. (July 23, 2015) – Franklin Pierce University Director of Athletics Bruce Kirsh and Head Athletic Trainer Cindy Arman have announced that Nicholas Ferrara has been named Assistant Athletic Trainer and will join the University's Athletic Training Staff for 2015-16. Ferrara's primary responsibilities at Franklin Pierce will be working with the institution's sprint football program and the men's & women's track & field programs.

"I am very excited to start my journey at Franklin Pierce as part of the Athletic Training team," said Ferrara. "I would like to thank everyone on the hiring committee for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to meeting the student-athletes and providing them with the best care possible."

Ferrara comes to Rindge after spending the 2014-15 year as a Clinical Assistant Athletic Trainer at Indiana University. While in Bloomington, he was a member of the six-person Sports Medicine staff for football at the Big Ten institution. Ferrara also served as a supervisor for Indiana's Sports Medicine students.

Prior to his time in the Hoosier State, Ferrara did a brief stint at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he was to serve as an Athletic Training intern and worked with the football team, though he left after just a month to pursue the opportunity at Indiana. Before UAB, he spent a year working with football and track & field as an Athletic Training intern at Morgan State University. While at Morgan State, Ferrara also served as an adjunct professor in the institution's Physical Education program.

"I am excited for our new staff addition to the Athletic Training room," said Arman. "Nicholas' experiences as an intercollegiate track & field athlete, as well as his variety of Athletic Training experiences, will give our staff a much-needed boost."

A 2011 graduate of Bridgewater State University with a bachelor's degree in exercise science/health fitness, Ferrara stayed at Bridgewater State to earn his master's degree in Athletic Training in 2013. As an undergraduate, he was a member of the Bears' track & field program. Ferrara also spent six years, from 2007 through 2013, as an official with the Massachusetts Track & Field Officials Association.

During his time as a graduate student, he spent time working with Providence College, Bishop Stang High School, Brown University and Bryant University, including time working directly with the football program at each of the latter two. Ferrara also did an internship with the strength and conditioning program at Bryant in spring 2011.

Originally from Swansea, Mass., Ferrara will officially join the staff at Franklin Pierce in August.
