Four cap careers with selections for each year of eligibility

Full Northeast-10 Conference Fall Academic All-Conference Teams

RINDGE, N.H. (January 30, 2012) – Seven Franklin Pierce University student-athletes have been named to the fall 2011 Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Team in their respective sports, as announced recently by the Conference office. Men's soccer senior forward Victor Goncalves (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), senior goalkeeper Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass.) and senior back Tom Reilly (Wallasey, England); field hockey senior forward Tia Levins (Manchester, Maine) and senior goalkeeper Brittany Nyzio (Attleboro, Mass.); and women's soccer senior midfielder Aya Noguchi (Tokyo, Japan) and senior forward Amanda Panaro (Rockland, Mass.) were among 92 athletes across seven sports honored by the Northeast-10.

"I am extremely proud of these seven student-athletes," said Vice President/Director of Athletics Bruce Kirsh. "As standouts both on the field and in the classroom, they have established themselves as leaders on our campus. Each of them represents their program, our department and the University at the highest level."

To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must fulfill each of the following criteria: (1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions as a starter or significant contributor, (2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale), and (3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. The teams are chosen by the vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives.

Three-time honorees Goncalves, Levins and Panaro, and two-time selection Nyzio all earned a spot on their sport's Academic All-Conference Team in every possible year during their Ravens careers (as a transfer prior to the 2009 season, Nyzio was not eligible as a sophomore). Both Goncalves and Panaro graduated at the end of the fall semester after just seven semesters on campus.

A management major with a 3.55 grade-point average, Goncalves was a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in November in addition to an All-Northeast-10 selection for his work on the field. He started 17 games for the national semifinalist Ravens in 2011 and ranked third on the team in scoring, with 16 points on six goals and four assists. Goncalves was also named to the Academic All-Conference Team in 2009 and 2010.

Papageorgiou, who carries a 3.43 grade-point average as a sports and recreation management major, earned All-America Third Team honors from both the NSCAA and Daktronics in the fall, and was also named Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year. A CoSIDA Academic All-District selection as well in November, he ranked third in the nation in goals-against average (0.51) and eighth in save percentage (.848).

Sporting a 3.51 grade-point average as a management major, Reilly was an All-America First Team selection by Daktronics and a Second-Team selection by the NSCAA after joining Goncalves and Papageorgiou on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. The Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year led a Franklin Pierce backline that finished third in the nation in goals-against average (0.51), sixth in shutout percentage (0.57) and seventh in save percentage (0.85). Reilly also earned Academic All-Conference honors in 2010.

Levins, a management major with a 3.85 grade-point average, was an All-Northeast-10 First Team selection after re-writing the Franklin Pierce record book in 2011. She established new program single-season records in goals (17) and points (36) on her was to establishing program high-water marks in both categories as well. Levins represented the Ravens at the NFHCA North/South Senior game after tying for ninth in the nation in goals per game (0.89) and ranking 14th in points per game (1.89). She previously earned Academic All-Conference selections in 2009 and 2010.

Nyzio carries a 3.59 grade-point average as a political science major and finished the 2011 campaign 11th in the nation in both goals-against average (2.00) and save percentage (.739), as well as 17th in saves per game (5.18). Despite spending just three seasons in Rindge, she leaves as the program's all-time leader in wins (25), goals-against average (1.65) and shutouts (9). Nyzio previously landed on the Academic All-Conference Team in 2010, her first year eligible for the award after transferring from Division I La Salle.

A sports and recreation management major with a 3.79 grade-point average, Noguchi was named to the NSCAA All-East Region Second Team for her work on the field in 2011. A defensive-minded midfielder, she started each of the Ravens' 16 matches and earned All-Northeast-10 Second Team honors as well.

Panaro graduates with a degree in mass communication after posting a 3.88 grade-point average. Despite missing the second half of her senior season with an injury, she tied for the team lead with six goals on her way to 12 points and was named to both the NSCAA All-East Region Third Team and the All-Northeast-10 Second Team. In November, she was also selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. A three-time All-Conference selection (in addition to an All-Rookie Team nod in 2008), a two-time All-Region selection and both an All-American and a CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2010, Panaro leaves as one of the most-decorated players in program history. She was previously selected to the Academic All-Conference Team in both 2009 and 2010.
