Monson Resigns Sports Information Post at Franklin Pierce

Class of 1996 member accepts position at Stonehill College following eight-plus years with Ravens

RINDGE, N.H. (July 29, 2009) - Franklin Pierce University has accepted the resignation of sports information director Doug Monson, who has been named director of athletic communications at Stonehill College. The announcement was made today by Bruce Kirsh, Vice President and Director of Athletics at the University.

"Doug Monson's departure from our staff is a significant loss," said Kirsh. "This is a bittersweet moment for me and the University. We are very happy for Doug and his family, but we are losing more than a valuable member of our staff, were losing a member of the Franklin Pierce family (Class of '96). Everyone in our department wishes him the best of luck in his new position at Stonehill."

Monson served over eight years as the sports information director at his alma mater Franklin Pierce where he oversaw the publicity efforts of all 17 intercollegiate programs - serving as the primary contact for the Ravens nationally recognized men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball and baseball programs.

Monson had the opportunity to promote five national players of the year, five appearances in national championship games - including the 2007 NCAA Division II Champion men's soccer program and the 2009 national runners-up in women's basketball. During the 2007-08 academic year, four Franklin Pierce programs reached the final stages of their respective NCAA Tournaments and three Raven student-athletes earned national player of the year honors - including women's basketball standout Johannah Leedham as the State Farm/WBCA Division II Player of the Year. Eight Ravens were also selected for the "Faces in the Crowd" section of Sports Illustrated.

An active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Monson is a member of the organization's Academic All-America program serving as district coordinator since 2003. His 2004 Franklin Pierce men's soccer media guide was named "Best in the Nation" by CoSIDA.

A search for Monson's replacement at Franklin Pierce will begin immediately.
