RINDGE, N.H. (February 18, 2010) – The Franklin Pierce University Department of Athletics had 150 student-athletes selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Fall Commissioner’s Honor Roll, as announced Wednesday by the conference office. To be eligible for selection to the Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have posted at least a 3.0 grade-point average during the fall 2009 semester. The 150 student-athletes who were honored represent 50.2% of the university’s 299 eligible student-athletes. In addition, nine Franklin Pierce athletes recorded perfect 4.0 grade-point averages last semester.

"I applaud the dedication and commitment these young men and women have exhibited to their academics as well as their abilities on the field of play," said Bruce Kirsh, Vice President and Director of Athletics at Franklin Pierce. "Our faculty and coaching staff takes great pride in this honor as well, and I personally thank them for their commitment to the University's academic mission."

Among Franklin Pierce’s honorees were senior back Rachel Smith (Chichester, N.H.) and junior forward Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg, Sweden) of the women’s soccer team, who were both Academic All-America selections by CoSIDA/ESPN: The Magazine in November. Also honored by the Northeast-10 were senior forward Johannah Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England), junior guard Cynthia Gaudet (Coventry, R.I.) and junior center Tori Ahrens (East Greenwich, R.I.) of the women’s basketball team, after each was an Academic All-District selection by CoSIDA/ESPN: The Magazine earlier this month.

Pamela Walker Pamela Walker was one of nine Franklin Pierce student-athletes to tally a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in the fall semester.

Both Smith and Johansson were also Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic Team selections earlier this month. They were joined by sophomore forward Amanda Panaro (Rockland, Mass.) of the women’s soccer team, sophomore midfielder Victor Goncalves (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) of the men’s soccer team, sophomore forward Tia Levins (Manchester, Maine) of the field hockey team and junior libero Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich.) of the volleyball team, each of which were selected to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll on Wednesday as well.

Johansson was one of nine Franklin Pierce student-athletes to post a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in the fall semester. She was joined by junior outfielder Derek Ingui (Sterling, Mass.) of the baseball team, junior setter Pamela Walker (Chino Hills, Calif.) of the volleyball team, sophomore third baseman Meaghan O’Neal (Littleton, Mass.) and senior catcher Kristen Tracy (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) of the softball team, senior Monica Lavertu (Berlin, N.H.) of the women’s tennis team, sophomores Melissa Dymek (Hubbardston, Mass.) and Frangelica O’Dell (Natick, Mass.) of the cross country team and freshman Emily Lodge (Lyman, Maine) of the women’s soccer and lacrosse teams.

In all, the 16 member institutions of the Northeast-10 combined to place 2,719 student-athletes on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll. That figure represents 48% of the conference’s eligible student-athletes.
