Wallace Makes 40 Saves as Men’s Ice Hockey Mounts Comeback, but Falls in NE10 First Round at Assumption, 4-3 (OT)

February 26, 2022

WORCESTER, Mass. (February 26, 2022) -- For Assumption, it was some manner of revenge. For the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team, it was simply heartbreak after a hard-fought comeback. Much as they had two years ago in the 2020 semifinal round, the Ravens erased a deficit on Saturday night at Worcester Ice Center, in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, as they rallied from a 3-0 hole to force overtime. This time though, it was third-seeded Assumption which would celebrate, as senior Robert Holyoke buried a shot on the rush at 9:11 of the extra session to deal sixth-seeded Franklin Pierce a 4-3, season-ending defeat.

Wallace Stellar Again, Men’s Ice Hockey Caps Regular Season with 2-0 win at Assumption

February 19, 2022

WORCESTER, Mass. (February 19, 2022) -- After a slow start to the month of February, the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team has now closed the regular season with back-to-back wins and a three-game unbeaten streak, to head into the postseason on a high note. On Saturday night, it was a 38-save shutout for graduate student goaltender Ian Wallace (West Islip, N.Y.) and a goal apiece in the first and second periods for the Ravens, who chalked up a 2-0 victory at Assumption, in Northeast-10 Conference play at Worcester Ice Center.

Power Play Leads Men’s Ice Hockey Past Assumption in Home Finale, 3-1

February 18, 2022

WINCHENDON, Mass. (February 18, 2022) -- A power-play goal late in the second stood as the difference in a penalty-filled affair on Friday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team closed out the home portion of its schedule with a 3-1 win over Northeast-10 Conference foe Assumption at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Junior Dom Norris (Thurmont, Md.) cashed in a deflection for the game-winner, while senior Chris Stevenson (Arvada, Colo.) factored in on all three scores, with two goals and an assist.

Wallace Steals Show, Men’s Ice Hockey Rallies for 3-3 (OT) Tie Against Assumption

February 15, 2022

WINCHENDON, Mass. (February 15, 2022) – Goaltender Ian Wallace (West Islip, N.Y.) did enough to keep the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team in it on Tuesday night. Frankly, he did more than enough. It was a 52-save outing for the graduate student, matching his career high, as he did everything but hold off visiting Assumption with a whip and chair, a la a lion tamer. The strong performance in the crease allowed the Ravens to hang around long enough for the team’s embattled special teams unit to find a pair of power-play goals, which keyed a three-goal third period rally, as Franklin Pierce turned a 3-0 second-intermission deficit into a 3-3 (OT) tie at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.

Lawler Nets Pair, Men’s Ice Hockey Edged at Saint Anselm, 3-2

February 12, 2022

MANCHESTER, N.H. (February 12, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team was soundly outshot again on Saturday, 40-24, but this time the Ravens were able to keep things more competitive on the scoreboard. Sophomore Trevor Lawler (East Bridgewater, Mass.) scored a pair for the Ravens, while junior Matt Hayes found the net twice on the other side for Saint Anselm. The dueling two-goal outings left a second-period score from sophomore Alec Grace to stand as the difference, as Saint Anselm picked up a 3-2 win in the Northeast-10 Conference contest at Sullivan Arena.

(February 11, 2022) -- For the second straight outing, the third period turned a close game into a significantly-less-close loss for the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team. Sophomore Cody Rumsey (York, Pa.) had the lone goal for Franklin Pierce, while five different Hawks found the net in the victory.

Men’s Ice Hockey Stung at Anna Maria, 7-2

February 08, 2022

AUBURN, Mass. (February 8, 2022) – Trailing 3-0 midway through the game, the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team used power-play goals on either side of the second intermission to close the gap to 3-2 on the road at Anna Maria. The wheels fell off from there for the Ravens at Horgan Arena, however. The penalty kill continued to scuffle, conceding twice down the stretch -- as part of just a 1-for-4 night -- as the AMCATS poured in four goals in the final 16 minutes to roll to a 7-2 victory.

Special Teams Sinks Men’s Ice Hockey in 3-2 Loss to Post

February 06, 2022

WINCHENDON, Mass. (February 6, 2022) – The penalty kill for the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team has struggled to find its footing all season, but things were particularly costly on Sunday at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena, as part of a rather empty afternoon on the special teams front. The man-down unit conceded three times in six chances, while the power play came up with nothing on seven opportunities of its own, as the Ravens suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Northeast-10 Conference opponent Post.

Men’s Ice Hockey Strikes Late to Force 3-3 (OT) Tie with Post on Senior Night

February 05, 2022

WINCHENDON, Mass. (February 5, 2022) -- A lackluster first period and an uneventful second left the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team in need of something late on Saturday night at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Something late they found though, as the Ravens struck three times in the final frame. An extra-attacker goal from junior Conor Foley (Nahant, Mass.) with 70 seconds to play allowed the crimson and grey to snatch a point from the verge of defeat, as the Ravens forged a 3-3 (OT) tie against visiting Post.

Special Teams Comes up Short for Men’s Ice Hockey in 8-3 Loss to Saint Michael’s

February 01, 2022

WINCHENDON, Mass. (February 1, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team went 1-for-4 with the man-advantage on Tuesday afternoon, but the power-play unit was outscored while it was on the ice over the course of the contest. The Ravens surrendered a pair of shorthanded goals, and the penalty kill conceded a score as well for good measure, as Franklin Pierce was outscored 3-1 on the special-teams front alone. Visiting Saint Michael’s posted an advantage at even strength as well, and the Ravens were dealt an 8-3 loss in Northeast-10 Conference play at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Sophomore Zach Taylor and senior Matt Egan both had hat tricks in the victory for the Purple Knights.
