Caitlin Sweeney ’18 Named as Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach

RINDGE, N.H. (May 27, 2020) – Franklin Pierce University Director of Athletics Rachel Burleson has announced Caitlin Sweeney ’18 has been named as the eighth head coach of the University’s women’s lacrosse program. A former All-America selection during her undergraduate career with the Ravens, Sweeney returns to the crimson and grey to make her head coaching debut.

When the Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team departed Sodexo Field following its game on March 4, nobody expected it would be their final game of the season. Why would they? The lacrosse regular season runs all the way till late April and, although an upcoming road trip meant their next home game was not until March 28, nobody anticipated their season was over. If anything, it was just beginning.

RINDGE, N.H. (March 4, 2020) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team suffered a 17-5 defeat at the hands of visiting Stonehill in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Sodexo Field. Senior attack Jennifer Wheaton (4-1-5) and junior midfielder Shannon Hughes (4-0-4) scored four times apiece to lead the way for the Skyhawks. Junior attack Caroline Lounsbury (Franklin, Mass.) scored twice in defeat for Franklin Pierce.

Women’s Lacrosse Rolls in Home Opener, Takes Care of Dominican (N.Y.), 15-5

RINDGE, N.H. (March 1, 2020) – On a blustery day at Sodexo Field, the Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team struggled with the conditions at times, but ultimately took care of business in the team’s home opener on Sunday afternoon. Junior midfielder Zoe Totland (Salt Lake City, Utah) scored four goals, while sophomore attack Morgan Baxendale (Orchard Park, N.Y.) notched four points of her own (3-1-4), as the Ravens chalked up a 15-5, non-conference victory over visiting Dominican (N.Y.). The two teams combined to commit 40 turnovers, as the cold weather and wind wreaked havoc with both offenses over the course of the afternoon.

Lounsbury, Ernst Lead Women’s Lacrosse Past CSU-Pueblo, 13-7

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 21, 2020) – After opening the season against a team ranked in the top five in the country, the Colorado State-Pueblo squad was a welcome sight for the Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team on Sunday afternoon at Gonzalez Stadium. The Ravens used five-point outings from both junior attack Caroline Lounsbury (Franklin, Mass.) and sophomore attack Savannah Ernst (American Fork, Utah) to chalk up a 13-7 non-conference win and split their season-opening trip to Colorado. The victory marked the first career win as a collegiate head coach for Hilary Duda.

Women’s Lacrosse Falls at No. 4 Regis (Colo.) in Season Opener, 15-3

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (February 21, 2020) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team opened its season on Friday afternoon, with a road trip to take on No. 4 nationally ranked Regis (Colo.), the two-time defending NCAA Midwest Region champion. Senior attack Ali Vanek led the way for the Rangers, with five goals and an assist for six points, while freshman attack Gabby Rothermund dished out five assists in her collegiate debut, as Regis picked up a 15-3 win in non-conference play at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Freshman midfielder Katie Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) had a goal and an assist for Franklin Pierce in her first collegiate action.

Franklin Pierce Athletics Announces 2019 Hall of Fame Class

RINDGE, N.H. (September 12, 2019) – Two National Players of the Year, another All-America selection and a two-time All-Northeast-10 Conference selection highlight the Franklin Pierce University Department of Athletics’ 2019 Hall of Fame class, as announced on Thursday afternoon. The four-athlete class represents five sports and will be honored over the course of Hall of Fame Weekend on Nov. 8 and 9. The formal induction will take place at a private social on Friday night, Nov. 8. The quartet will then be honored publicly on Saturday, in conjunction with the Nov. 9 football game against Bentley.
