RINDGE, N.H. (March 4, 2020) – The Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team suffered a 17-5 defeat at the hands of visiting Stonehill in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Sodexo Field. Senior attack Jennifer Wheaton (4-1-5) and junior midfielder Shannon Hughes (4-0-4) scored four times apiece to lead the way for the Skyhawks. Junior attack Caroline Lounsbury (Franklin, Mass.) scored twice in defeat for Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-2 (0-1 NE10), while Stonehill improves to 1-1 (1-1 NE10).

Stonehill opened the scoring with back-to-back goals in the opening 4:32, as Wheaton stepped out front to open the scoring and then scored the second goal as well, as she had the finish on the rush to capitalize on a Franklin Pierce turnover at the other end of the field. The Ravens got on the board less than 30 seconds later, as sophomore attack Savannah Ernst (America Fork, Utah) hit the crossbar with her initial shot, picked up her own rebound and put it home.

From there, Stonehill rattled off the final 10 goals of the first half. Senior midfielder Kaity Healey provided the first three, as she finished twice right out front, once on either side of a free-position goal. Hughes capped the half with four straight goals, three of which came in a man-up situation, as the Skyhawks took a 12-1 lead into halftime. Freshman attack Lydia Rudden had three first-half assists, on her way to five for the game.

Stonehill put home the first three goals of the second half as well, to extend the run to 13 straight goals. Franklin Pierce then scored four of the final six goals, and the final deficit stood at 17-5.

Lounsbury scored twice on the afternoon and was the only multiple-point scorer of the day for the Ravens. Sophomore midfielder Riley Lynch (Medford, Mass.) corralled three draw controls, while Ernst picked up three ground balls.

For Stonehill, Wheaton (4-1-5) and Rudden (0-5-5) contributed five points apiece, while Hughes (4-0-4) and Healey (3-1-4) added four each. Junior midfielder Emily Sharretts nabbed a game-high four draw controls, while Hughes, Rudden and freshman defender Abigail Moynihan all matched Ernst's three ground balls. Hughes and freshman attack Kayla Conway each caused two turnovers.

Franklin Pierce used three goalkeepers to get through the afternoon. Sophomore Megan Bacik (Huntington Station, N.Y.) started, did not make a save against six shots over the opening 7:31 and suffered the loss (0-1). Senior Casey Butera (West Milford, N.J.) took over for the remainder of the first half and made six saves against 12 shots. Freshman Erin Blake (Southborough, Mass.) played the second half and stopped four of nine shots.

Senior Bailey Grant (1-1) made seven saves against 10 shots over 54:04 to pick up the win in the Stonehill crease. Junior Kaleigh Wright took over for the final 5:56 after Grant picked up a yellow card and stopped two of four shots.

The Ravens return to the field on Monday, March 16, when they travel to Adelphi for an NE10 contest. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at Motamed Field in Garden City, N.Y.
