RINDGE, N.H. (November 2, 2022) -- An offense which has struggled at times in recent weeks came to life for the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team on Wednesday afternoon. Facing a 3-0 fourth-quarter deficit at Sodexo Field, the Ravens got goals from seniors Christine Jarowicz (Kennebunk, Maine) and Meghan Winn (Newburyport, Mass.) in a final period where they posted a 7-0 advantage in shots. It would not be quite enough for the home team, as visiting Bentley notched a goal apiece in each of the first three quarters and held on for a 3-2 victory in the Northeast-10 Conference contest.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 4-11 (3-7 NE10) and has dropped four in a row, while Bentley improves to 9-6 (7-3 NE10).

Bentley struck once in each of the first three quarters on Wednesday, to build a 3-0 lead it would not relinquish. The Falcons opened the scoring in just the fourth minute, following a turnover by the Franklin Pierce backline. Sophomore Lida Coco wound up in all alone off the turnover and put away her team-leading seventh of the season.

Senior Ava Bevilacqua made it 2-0 in the 19th minute, when she slotted away her first of the season, with a shot from five yards outside the left post. Bentley's third of the game came in the 35th minute, when senior Caroline Szatkowski put the ball towards the net from just outside the circle, high on the left side. Sophomore Emma Halas was out front and deflected home her first of the year.

Franklin Pierce got on the comeback trail in the fourth quarter, starting with a 53rd-minute corner. Junior Anna Beck (Attleboro, Mass.) inserted for Jarowicz on the left side. Jarowicz went for a lifted shot, an approach she has tried several times in recent games. This time, it paid off, as she was able to feather the ball over the on-rushing defense, out of the reach of Bentley senior goalkeeper Madison Clark, underneath the crossbar, and into the right side of the net, for her second goal of the campaign.

The Ravens got as close as 3-2, with another goal, just 72 seconds later, in the 55th minute. Jarowicz played playmaker this time, as she carried deep down the right-wing side and then hit a long cross into the middle of the circle. Winn was on the receiving end and quickly put a shot home from the penalty spot for her third of the season.

Franklin Pierce was able to muster one final corner in the game's final 30 seconds, but was unable to come up with the equalizer. Sophomore Rebecca Phillips (West Amwell, N.J.) had her drive from the top of the circle blocked by the defense, and freshman Sage Clukey (Winslow, Maine) was stymied at the right post on the follow-up attempt, by Bentley sophomore goalkeeper Erin McGuinness.

Senior goaltender MacKenzie Potvin (Goffstown, N.H.) finished with seven saves against 10 shots and suffered the loss (0-5) in the Franklin Pierce net. McGuinness (2-4) played the first three quarters for Bentley, before Clark took over to start the third quarter. Clark made just one save against three shots over 9:42, before McGuinness returned to the cage to see out the game. In all, McGuinness stopped all five shots she faced over 50:48 in net.

The Ravens are back in action for their home finale on Saturday, Nov. 5, when they host Adelphi at 11 a.m. The team will honor its senior class prior to the game at Sodexo Field.
