Three in Third Gives Field Hockey Fourth Straight Win, 3-0, at Molloy

SEAFORD, N.Y. (October 15, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University field hockey team held a 9-4 advantage in shot attempts on the road at Molloy in the first half on Saturday, but the game remained scoreless into halftime. The third quarter would be even more dominant though, and finally yielded results, as the Ravens had all seven shots in the stanza, and popped three goals in a span of just 3:59. It would be all the scoring on the day, as a 32nd-minute marker from senior Alicia Hottleman (Mansfield, Mass.) held as the game-winner, and Franklin Pierce chalked up a 3-0 win in Northeast-10 Conference play at Cedar Creek Park.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 4-7 (3-3 NE10) and has won four in a row, which is the team's longest winning streak since the Ravens won their first four games of the 2015 season, and is just one win off the program record of five straight, set in October of 2011. It was also the team's first shutout since a 6-0 win over Molloy on Oct. 3, 2021. With the loss, Molloy falls to 1-9 (0-6 NE10), and has lost nine straight after winning its season opener.

All of the day's scoring came in the opening six minutes of the third quarter. The ice-breaker came in the 32nd minute, after freshman Delaney Condon (Atkinson, N.H.) found a lane to center the ball from the right side of the circle. Her feed found Hottleman at the left post, and the senior had an empty cage to bang home her second goal of the season. For Condon, the assist marked her first collegiate point.

It took just 2:58 for the Ravens to double the lead, in the 35th minute. Senior Meghan Winn (Newburyport, Mass.) provided the setup this time, as she drove a long ball into the circle from 25 yards out. Fellow senior Gabi Sturgeon (North Granby, Conn.) was on the receiving end and had a deflection out front to notch her fourth goal of the campaign, as well as her third in the last two games.

The third goal came only 61 seconds later, in the 36th minute, off a penalty corner. Junior Anna Beck (Attleboro, Mass.) inserted the ball on the left side for senior Christine Jarowicz (Kennebunk, Maine), who teed up her shot from there. Her attempt was saved by Molloy junior goalkeeper Ally Saigh, but Beck had made her way towards the net, and was on the scene to capitalize on the rebound. She salted away her third goal in as many games from five yards out to cap the scoring.

Sophomore goalkeeper Addy Araneo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) stopped all three shots on her goal to pick up the win (4-3), as well as her second career shutout. Saigh (0-3) made eight saves against 11 shots in the loss for Molloy, while freshman Lizzy Hedgecock chipped in her third defensive save of the season.

The Ravens are home for four of their next five, beginning with a Wednesday afternoon showdown with first-place Assumption. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Sodexo Field on Oct. 19.
