RINDGE, N.H. (October 8, 2022) -- Senior tri-captain Meghan Winn (Newburyport, Mass.) was left all alone at the right post in the second overtime on Saturday afternoon at Sodexo Field, and fellow senior tri-captain Christine Jarowicz (Kennebunk, Maine) found her. Winn needed only knock the ball into a gaping cage for the 76th-minute winner, as the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team picked up its second straight win over visiting Southern New Hampshire, 3-2, in Northeast-10 Conference action. It was Winn's first career overtime goal, while Jarowicz matched a career best with two assists on the day, including a strong individual effort to set up the game-winner.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 2-7 (1-3 NE10), while SNHU falls to 2-7 (1-3 NE10). It was Franklin Pierce's first league win since a 6-0 win at home over Molloy on Oct. 3, 2021, which was also the last time the Ravens posted back-to-back wins.

Near the midpoint of the second overtime, Franklin Pierce won its seventh and final penalty corner of the afternoon. The Ravens ran a play for sophomore Rebecca Phillips (West Amwell, N.J.), who unleashed a big shot from the top of the circle. SNHU freshman goalkeeper Emma Peeters made the save, but the rebound came out of bounds to Franklin Pierce, on the sideline, deep in the left-wing corner.

Jarowicz, who did not come off the field for more than a handful of the game's 75:10, summoned the energy to go to work from there. She took the ball off the sideline, made a spin move to her left to get an edge on her defender, reversed her stick and dribbled down the end line. Using her body as a shield, she carried all the way to the left post, where she found a lane to knock a pass out in front of the right post. Winn was there waiting to bury her first of the season into a yawning cage to touch off the celebration for the Ravens.

The goal made a winner (2-3) out of sophomore goalkeeper Addy Araneo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), who made eight saves against 10 shots on her goal. Peeters (2-6) made just two saves against five shots on her cage in the losing effort for SNHU. The Penmen posted a 13-10 advantage in shot attempts in the game.

Earlier in the day, Franklin Pierce opened the scoring on a penalty corner in the fifth minute. Junior Anna Beck (Attleboro, Mass.) inserted the ball to the top of the circle for Phillips, who drove a shot inside the left post for her second goal of the campaign.

SNHU evened things up just 3:19 later, in the ninth minute. Sophomore Carley Lovejoy and freshman Anne Wiersma combined to dispossess Franklin Pierce freshman Nina Depew (Acton, Mass.) inside her own circle, and then Wiersma collected near the penalty spot and put a shot inside the left post for her first collegiate goal.

Franklin Pierce took a lead into halftime, off another corner play, this time in the 24th minute. Again, Beck sent the ball up top to Phillips, but this time the latter dished off to the left side for Jarowicz, while the former made her way to the left post. Jarowicz put the ball towards the net, and Beck deflected it home for her first of the year.

It would take some time, but SNHU would find an equalizer with just 3:54 to play, to force overtime. From outside the top of the circle, Wiersma fed the ball to freshman Rosa Maria Ruiz Hellin on the right side of the circle. Ruiz Hellin hit a shot from distance, which tucked inside the left post for her first career goal.

The first overtime went scoreless, with SNHU recording the only two shot attempts of the period, which set the stage for the double-overtime heroics from Jarowicz and Winn.

The Ravens now hit the road for their next two, beginning with an NE10 contest at American International on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Abdow Field in Springfield, Mass.
