Field Hockey Shutout at New Haven, 4-0

Ravens field hockey

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (October 1, 2022) -- Things got off on the wrong foot for the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team on Saturday afternoon. The Ravens conceded twice in the opening four minutes and were never able to recover. Franklin Pierce held its own statistically, as it faced deficits of just 21-16 in shot attempts and 11-9 in shots on goal, but the Ravens could never get on the scoreboard at DellaCamera Stadium, as they suffered a 4-0, Northeast-10 Conference defeat at New Haven.

With the loss, the Ravens fall to 0-7 (0-3 NE10), while New Haven improves to 3-4 (3-0 NE10).

It was trouble from the get-go for Franklin Pierce on Saturday. New Haven opened the scoring just 2:04 in, when graduate student Sophie Schreck put the first of her two goals into the right side of the cage for her third goal of the season. It took just another 96 seconds for Schreck to find her second of the game, as she took a feed from senior Zharria John and doubled the lead to 2-0.

Franklin Pierce settled in from there, but was never able to crack New Haven graduate student goalkeeper Keira Integlia (2-4), who stopped all nine shots on her goal to post her second shutout of the season, and the eighth of her career.

New Haven added a third goal before halftime, on a penalty corner in the 24th minute. The ball came up top for Schreck, who added an assist to complete her five-point day (2-1-5), as she dished the ball off to the right for graduate student Taylor Geaglone. Geaglone stepped to the middle of the circle and put a shot through traffic for her first of the year.

The Chargers capped the scoring on the other side of halftime, in the 33rd minute. Senior MacKenzie Potvin (Goffstown, N.H.) came off her line in an attempt to play a loose ball in the circle, but did not get there in time. Sophomore Abby Nixon was the beneficiary, as she corralled the ball and put a shot around Potvin for her second of the campaign.

Potvin (0-4) finished with seven saves against 11 shots in the loss in front of the Franklin Pierce cage.

The Ravens are right back on the road on Tuesday, Oct. 4, when they travel to Southern New Hampshire for a 6 p.m. start at Larkin Field in Manchester, N.H.
