RINDGE, N.H. (October 26, 2021) -- Back home for the penultimate game of the season, the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team came out on the short end of a 4-1 decision against St. Thomas Aquinas at a damp and dreary Sodexo Field on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore Hailey Galison had a goal and an assist to lead the way for STAC in the Northeast-10 Conference contest.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 3-14 (1-12 NE10) and has lost seven in a row, while St. Thomas Aquinas improves to 7-9 (6-6 NE10).

The only goal of the first quarter came via a penalty stroke, after a Franklin Pierce defender could not cleanly block a shot on the goal line. Galison took the stroke and shoved it into the lower-left corner for her third goal of the season.

The game would remain 1-0 until halftime, before the Spartans seized control of the proceedings with a pair of third-quarter goals, both of which came off turnovers by the Franklin Pierce back line. In the first minute of the second half, freshman Erin Bacalles won possession of the ball outside the circle on the left side, carried into the top of the scoring area and drove a shot to the lower-right corner for her second goal of the season. In the 37th minute, senior Lauren Cooper dispossessed the Ravens at the top of the circle and put a shot home from distance for her team-leading sixth of the campaign.

STAC added one final insurance marker in the fourth quarter to push the lead as high as 4-0. In the 49th minute, Galison provided the feed from the left-wing side and found sophomore Olivia Cerbo, who finished off her fourth of the year from outside the left post.

Franklin Pierce broke up the shutout on a 51st-minute penalty corner. Sophomore Annie Corbett (Oakland, Maine) inserted the ball to the top of the circle for freshman Rebecca Phillips (West Amwell, N.J.). Phillips let her shot fly from there and wound up with her second goal of the season after the ball was deflected by the defense en route.

Junior MacKenzie Potvin (Goffstown, N.H.) stopped only two of the six shots on her goal and suffered the loss (0-6) in goal for Franklin Pierce. Senior Jessie Hohenstein (7-9) made six saves against seven shots in front of the STAC net to pick up the victory.

The Ravens will close out the season on Saturday, Oct. 30, when they host Pace in an NE10 contest at 11 a.m. at Sodexo Field.
