Ravens visit Saint Anselm on Tuesday

Lepore Lepore recorded her fourth defensive save on the season against Adelphi on Saturday afternoon.

RINDGE, N.H. (September 29, 2012) – Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Cote (Athol, Mass.) made 14 saves on Saturday afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team was defeated, 3-0, by Adelphi in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Freshman midfielder Molly Cuevas tallied a goal and an assist in the win for Adelphi.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-9 (0-4 Northeast-10), while Adelphi improves to 3-8 (2-1 Northeast-10).

Adelphi scored the only goal it would need just 4:31 into the contest. Freshman forward Kristen Bagley sent the ball into a mess of traffic from the right-wing side. Senior forward Cassie Cabral was the first to find it and put home her sixth of the season. The Panthers would make it 2-0 at the 19:37 mark, when Cuevas was stopped twice, but then scored on a rebound for her sixth goal of the season.

Adelphi capped the scoring with 12:42 to play in regulation on a set play off a penalty corner. Cuevas injected the ball to senior midfielder Emilee Rahner at the top of the circle, and she stopped it there for junior midfielder Jamie Ackerman. Ackerman wound and drove the ball to the back of the cage for her second goal of the season.

Cote stopped 14 of the 17 shots on her cage and took the loss (2-9) in net for Franklin Pierce. Both junior midfielder Jess Rogers (Uxbridge, Mass.) and sophomore back Brittany Lepore (Barnstable, Mass.) recorded defensive saves for the Ravens. Senior goalkeeper Kristine Puzio stopped all three shots on goal at her end of the field to pick up the win (2-5) and notch her first shutout of the season.

The Ravens return to the field on Tuesday, Oct. 2, when they travel to Saint Anselm for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Grappone Stadium in Manchester, N.H. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Thursday, Oct. 4 against Merrimack at 6 p.m.
