Haight Haight earned her third Defensive Player of the Week Award from the Northeast-10 for her role in the Ravens' three wins last week.

RINDGE, N.H. (October 19, 2011) – Senior back Beth Haight (Hamlin, N.Y.) of the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team has been named Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending on Oct. 16, as announced Tuesday by the Conference office. In addition, senior forward Tia Levins (Manchester, Maine) and senior goalkeeper Brittany Nyzio (Attleboro, Mass.) have both been named to the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll.

In a 3-0 week for the Ravens that included a win over nationally-ranked opposition, Haight led a defensive unit that allowed just 24 shots on goal (8 per game), as well as only four goals (1.33 per game). As a unit, the backline allowed only 48% of shot attempts (24 of 50) to become shots on goal, blocking or forcing wide the other 26.

Last Monday, Franklin Pierce held American International to just six shots on goal, despite facing 15 penalty corners, in a 2-1 win. On Wednesday night, the Ravens faced 16 penalty corners and 24 shot attempts, but held No. 10 Bentley to 12 shots on goal, in a 4-2 victory. Finally, on Saturday, Franklin Pierce surrendered just six penalty corners and held Saint Michael's to two shots on goal in a 2-1 win.

It is the third Defensive Player of the Week Award for Haight, who was previously honored for the weeks ending on Sept. 4 and Oct. 2.

Levins put home four goals, including two game-winners, and added an assist to tally nine points in the three games for the Ravens. She scored the game-winning goal in overtime against AIC before figuring on all four goals with three goals and an assist at Bentley. The hat trick was her second of the season, making Levins the first player in school history to tally multiple hat tricks in a season. She now has 15 goals on the season, establishing a new school record.

It is the third Weekly Honor Roll selection of the season for Levins, who was previously honored for the weeks ending on Sept. 25 and Oct. 9.

Nyzio picked up all three wins between the pipes for the Ravens last week and posted a 1.25 goals-against average. She notched 15 saves against 19 shots on her cage. Nyzio's busiest outing of the week came on Wednesday, when she turned aside nine of 11 shots sent her way by the Bentley attack. On the season, Nyzio is now 7-6 with a 2.17 goals-against average.

It is the third trip to the Weekly Honor Roll on the campaign for Nyzio, who was previously selected for the weeks ending on Sept. 4 and Oct. 2, both previous times Haight was named Defensive Player of the Week.

The Ravens (8-8, 5-3 Northeast-10) return to the field on Thursday, Oct. 20, when they return home to host Stonehill in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Sodexo Field.
