Moirano Moirano scored the game's only goal to help lead the Ravens to the win at Assumption on Wednesday night.

WORCESTER, Mass. (October 13, 2010) – Senior forward Ashley Moirano (Vero Beach, Fla.) scored the only goal of the game 4:25 into the second half on Wednesday night to lead the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team to a 1-0 road victory over Assumption in Northeast-10 Conference play at Multi-Sport Stadium. Junior goalkeeper Brittany Nyzio (Attleboro, Mass.) made four saves to pick up her fourth shutout of the season for Franklin Pierce.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 6-5 (3-0 Northeast-10), while Assumption falls to 0-11 (0-6 Northeast-10) with the loss. It was the third consecutive shutout for the Ravens defense, which has now not allowed a goal in 224:21.

After a scoreless first half, Moirano provided all the evening's offense early in the second half with her second goal of the season. Moirano took a feed from senior midfielder Jordan Baillargeon (Westfield, Mass.) and took a shot from 15 feet out on the left side that beat Assumption senior goalkeeper Danielle Luongo.

After an even first half, Franklin Pierce posted an 8-3 advantage in shots in the second half to tally a 16-10 edge over the course of the game, which included an 11-4 margin in shots on goal. The Ravens were awarded eight penalty corners compared to six for Assumption.

Nyzio stopped all four shots on her cage to pick up the win (5-5) and her fifth career shutout. Personally, she has not allowed a goal over her last 189:21 between the pipes, including two shutouts.

Luongo made 10 saves, but took the loss (0-9) in front of the net for Assumption.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 16, when they travel to American International for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Ronald J. Abdow Field in Springfield, Mass.
