RINDGE, N.H. (October 18, 2008) –
Junior midfielder Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth
HS) scored three goals in the second half on Saturday afternoon to
lead No. 9 nationally ranked Stonehill to a 6-1 victory over the
Franklin Pierce University field hockey team in Northeast-10
Conference play at Sodexo Field. Sophomore midfielder Ashley Moirano (Vero Beach, Fla./South
Burlington (Vt.)) scored the lone goal of the game for
Franklin Pierce.
Stonehill opened the scoring a little over 12 minutes into the
first half. Senior defender Kerri Sullivan (Goffstown,
N.H./Goffstown) was able to slip a pass behind the Franklin Pierce
defense to senior forward Laura Nimon (Gardiner, Maine/Gardiner)
who had made a break to the cage. Nimon redirected home her sixth
goal of the season at the 12:12 mark to give Stonehill a 1-0 lead.
Franklin Pierce evened the score at 1-1 with just 3:40 remaining in
the opening frame when Moirano picked up her fifth goal of the
season and fourth in as many games as she poked home her own
rebound from amidst a scramble in front of the net.
Franklin Pierce held a 5-3 advantage in shots in the first
half.
The second half was all Stonehill, as the Skyhawks scored five
times to come away with a 6-1 victory. Ladino notched her first of
three second-half tallies just 2:33 into the frame off a feed to
the right side from junior forward Claire Hourihan. After 10
scoreless minutes, Sullivan would notch her third and fourth goals
of the season just 1:12 apart to add to her first-half assist and
give Stonehill a 4-1 lead. Sullivan’s first goal came
unassisted off a rebound in front of the cage while her second came
from the high slot off a feed from the right side by sophomore
midfielder Michaela Deasy (North Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth)
Ladino tacked on two insurance goals with 2:26 and 1:29 remaining
to notch the hat trick with her ninth and 10th goals of the season,
respectively. The second of the pair was unassisted while the first
came off a pass from freshman midfielder Hayley O’Brien
(Boxborough, Mass./Acton-Boxborough).
Stonehill dominated the second half to the tune of a 16-1 shots
advantage, which allowed the Skyhawks to enjoy a 19-6 edge over the
full 70 minutes.
Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Osier (South Dennis,
Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) made three saves in front of the
Stonehill cage to earn the victory. Freshman Kristin Tormollan (Waterville,
Maine/Waterville) turned aside seven shots for Franklin
Pierce in defeat.

Michael’s in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is
